Chennai is bracing for Cyclone Fengal
CHENNAI: As Chennai braces for Cyclone Fengal (pronounced Feinjal) set to make landfall on Saturday afternoon with expected wind speed of up to 90 km per hour and 20 cm of rain, 18,000 police personnel, corporate personnel, firefighters, navy and coast guards are ready to to ensure that the storm passes without causing any damage, reports U Tejonmayam.
The cyclone formed 270 km southeast of Chennai on Friday.
A red alert has been issued for extremely heavy rainfall in the coastal areas from Tiruvallur to Cuddalore.
The police have set up 39 dedicated control rooms open 24 hours a day, each manned by at least 10 personnel, equipped with emergency contacts so that senior officers from different departments can coordinate during emergencies.
