CIK detains Kashmiri student for 'glorifying terrorism'
SRINAGAR: A student from South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, who is currently pursuing his MSc in Lab Science, was detained by Counterintelligence Kashmir (CIK) Wednesday for alleged misuse of social media to promote radical, anti-national views and inflame public sentiment against the Government of India. He is said to have ‘glorified’ terrorism on his social media accounts and was about to take up arms himself, the CIK said in a statement.
Accused Bhat Navidul Ali, a resident of Tazipora-Mohammadpora in Kulgam, had been “in constant contact with a number of cyber/virtual entities that radicalized and motivated youth to join terrorism and terrorists,” the statement said.
Besides glorifying terrorism in J&K, Bhat “also consumes the radical content available on the internet” and it was learned that he was “on the verge of joining the terrorist ranks,” CIK said. When he received this information, a special CIK team detained him for questioning. His parents and neighbors were also called for guidance, the statement said.
“The youth of Kashmir Valley are appealed to refrain from participating in such illegal activities and parents are advised to keep a close watch on their wards so that the youth do not fall into the trap of such temptations,” it said. declaration.
