THERE’S nothing worse than opening your child’s water bottle and finding it dirty, filthy and smelly.
But a self-proclaimed ‘Queen of Clean’ has shared a super-simple trick that parents can use to keep bottles smelling clean and fresh before the new school year starts.
Lynsey took to her TikTok page to post a video as she explained how to do it, demonstrating it with her own personalized pink bottle.
The first step is to cover the bottom half of the bottle with dry rice.
Fill the bottle with water and add a “good squirt” of dish soap, she said, using an Elbow Grease variety.
After doing this, shake the mixture vigorously and let it sit overnight.

In the morning, pour the contents of the bottle through a sieve into the sink.
Throw away the rice, rinse the bottle well and it is ready to use.
“The hard rice acts as an abrasive cleaning agent,” Lynsey explains.
“Scrub away the black spots and make your bottle nice and clean again.”
This method will also remove any mold spots that may develop inside the bottle.
Lynsey added in the caption: “If you notice your water bottle starting to smell or has mold on it, it’s time for a deep clean.”
And while “denture tablets, baking soda, and alka-seltzer are also great cleaners,” “it does fight mold,” she explained.
People were quick to respond to the video. One person wrote: “Awesome, thank you!”
“Genius,” added another.
As a third said: “Mine always tastes like juice.
“I’ll try.”
