Cloud Gaming comes to PlayStation Portal
The PlayStation Remote Player just got a lot more portable. A new system update coming later Tuesday will allow players to use the Portal to stream games in the cloud, without having to connect to a PlayStation 5. Until now, the Portal could only play games remotely from your PlayStation 5, and you usually had to do it on the same network for the best results, but now you can actually take this device with you for gaming on the go.
In a message on the PlayStation BlogSony said this update will make it possible to stream more than 120 titles during beta access. These games are specific to the PlayStation Plus catalog, and you get access to that library if you’re a PS Plus Premium member – the most expensive tier costs $18 per month.
Of course, you’ll need a decent internet connection for cloud gaming, and Sony recommends 7 Mbps for 720p and 13 Mbps for 1080p once the beta is available.
As soon as the update is available, we will test it and show it off, so stay tuned.
