The host is comedian Bill Bailey and the program is aimed at people who want to emulate the top athletes they see on television from the comfort of their own living room.

This is evident from research among 2000 adults, which showed that a quarter of the population still has difficulty fitting exercise into their daily routine and do not know how to become more physically active.

Among people with long-term health problems, this percentage rises to 38 percent.

Almost a third (27 percent) have been ‘inspired’ by the Sports Summer to become more active, while another 19 percent want to play football and 13 percent want to try swimming.

Comedian and actor Bill Bailey added: “I’m excited to be partnering with We Are Undefeatable for a second year, to continue to encourage people to be more active in whatever way they can – big or small.

“This SOFA workout is an absolute game-changer.

“It shows that fitness doesn’t have to be just for the athletes we all see on our screens. You can start doing it in your own living room, on your couch. It’s about making fitness fun and accessible for everyone.”

The research found that more free time (38 percent), less uncertainty (30 percent) and accessible exercise opportunities (20 percent) would help respondents incorporate more physical activity into their routine.

And 31 percent said that watching sports on TV or another device, such as a smartphone or tablet, motivates them to be more active.

Nearly eight in ten (78 percent) people have never used their couch as a tool for physical activity.

Currently, watching television (84 percent), reading (60 percent) and surfing the phone (53 percent) are among the most common activities people do on the couch.

However, 52 percent of people with long-term health conditions would be ‘interested’ in physical activity from the couch.

While 66 percent of respondents would be interested in incorporating physical activity into their existing routines and at home.

The survey, conducted through OnePoll.com, also found that 38 percent are dissatisfied with their current level of exercise.

Duleep Allirajah, chief executive of Richmond Group of Charities and spokesperson for We Are Undefeatable, said: “It’s been a fantastic summer of sport and there’s more to come, potentially inspiring many people across the country to get active.

“However, for people with long-term health conditions, the idea of taking up new activities can be intimidating or unmanageable.

“That’s why we wanted to show that moving more can be accessible and part of your daily routine – and that you can do it from the comfort of your couch.”

“With this campaign we want to show what it means to be physically active with a chronic condition and the benefits it can have for our physical and mental health.

“We are delighted to be working with Bill Bailey again to do this.”
