NEW DELHI: The Congress on Friday expressed outrage over an alleged inappropriate remark aimed at Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, which was reportedly posted on the official X-handle of the Gautam Buddha Nagar district magistrate.
The party demands immediate action against the official responsible for the post.
In response to the controversy, a statement was issued about the district magistrate’s X-grip Manish Vermain which he alleged that some antisocial elements had misused his identity card and posted the insulting comment.
The statement further stated that legal action was being taken, with an FIR being registered and the cyber cell investigating the matter. A copy of the FIR was then shared on the handle.

Jairam RameshCongress General Secretary, in-charge of communications, criticised the incident and said it is an example of the increasing politicisation of the Indian bureaucracy and non-political functionaries in the past decade.
He highlighted the ongoing attempts to suppress and undermine the bureaucracy, which Sardar Patel once called the ‘steel frame of India’. Ramesh called for immediate action against the official for violating rules and norms.

“This is not a new development; over the past decade, India’s bureaucracy and other non-political functionaries have become increasingly politicized,” Ramesh said on X.
“A lot of effort is being made to suppress and render useless the bureaucracy, which Sardar Patel once called the steel frame of India. Cases like this are the latest example of that effort,” he said.
The controversial post, which was later deleted, was posted in response to a clip shared by a congressional spokesperson Supriya Shrinein which she discussed the historical perception of Narendra Modi. The post from the district magistrate’s handle said in Hindi, “You should think of yourself and your Pappu.”

Shrinate shared a screenshot of the deleted post, which highlighted the DM’s responsibility for the entire district and the inappropriate language used to refer to Rahul Gandhi. She also pointed out the presence of “Sanghis” in administrative positions, accusing them of fomenting hatred while holding constitutional positions.
“He is DM Noida, he is responsible for the entire district. His language and thoughts about the country’s opposition leader Rahul Gandhi should be seen,” she said.
“It is clear that the administrative staff is full of Sanghis. And now they are stoking hatred by holding constitutional positions,” she added.
Pawan KheraCongress media and publicity department chief, questioned whether IAS officers are now being directed to make such political remarks under BJP rule, citing Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the home minister’s office.
