NEW DELHI: National spokesperson of the BJP Shehzad Poonawalla on Wednesday leveled accusations against the Congress party for spreading lies and colluding with the party anti-national forces win elections.
“When yesterday the BJP government was formed for the third time in Haryana and that too with a huge majority, one thing is clear: those who spread lies against a party, against the country, today the people of Haryana have defeated all those lies . …The manner in which the Congress party had said things that hurt the Hindu faith to unite the vote bank has also received a befitting response. The Congress party is ready to support the forces working against the country to defeat the BJP…The Congress is joining hands with anti-national forces just to win elections…” he said.
He targeted Congress for accusing the institutional election body of an alleged discrepancy in voter data.
“At 8:30 p.m. the wind blew in their favor and at 11 a.m. Jalebi was dispersed. Then they thought the counting was slow, the democracy was in danger. At 12:30 p.m., democracy was about to end, because the EVM was ruined. And at 2 p.m. they declared that everything, the elections, would not go well, and this was the defeat of democracy.”
“This means that if the elections are won in Telangana, democracy is fine, EVM is fine. If I win the elections in Jammu and Kashmir with my alliance partner, then democracy will be right. If I lose in Haryana, I will. abusing the public, the EVM, democracy. This has become the nature of the Congress party and has been done many times. You will abuse the democratic institutions against one party. And that too, sometimes abroad, sometimes in the country added.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission on Tuesday termed Congress’ allegation over the delay in updating Haryana assembly election results as “baseless” and said it rejects the attempt “to covertly give credence to irresponsible, baseless and uncorroborated rogue stories”.
ECI was responding to a memorandum issued by Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh in which the party complained of “inexplicable delay” in updating the Haryana poll results on its website.
