Congress misleads people by promising caste census: Rajnath Singh
RANCHI: Attacking Rahul Gandhi because he showed promise caste census If Congress is elected, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday accused the party of misleading people and wondered why the exercise was not carried out when the grand old party was ruling the country.
Addressing a rally in Jharkhand’s Khunti, Singh said law and order in the state had deteriorated due to infiltration from Bangladesh under the aegis of JMM.
“A socio-economic caste census was conducted in 2011 and found nearly 46 lakh castes, sub-castes and gotras. The number was so large that the report was not even made public at the time. According to the Ministry of Social Welfare, there were about 1,200 Scheduled Castes, over 750 Scheduled Tribes and about 2,500 Other Backward Castes,” he said.
Referring to Rahul, Singh said a Congress neta is misleading people by claiming to hold a caste census if his party wins. “Who does Congress want to benefit by opening the caste box? I want to ask Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge about the party’s blueprint for the welfare of thousands of castes. What arrangements will it make for reservations?” he said.
Singh claims that the influx from Bangladesh has increased and the situation in Jharkhand is so bad that even ‘Saraswati Vandana’ is being prevented and stone pelting occurs during festivals.
