“All I know is it’s been a love-hate relationship with me and the UFC the entire time I’ve been with this organization, but in the end I love the UFC,” Diaz said.

“Shout out to Dana White, Lorenzo Fertitta and Hunter Campbell for giving me the opportunity and the platform all along, for everyone and for myself.

“I just want to step out of the UFC for a while and show all these UFC fighters how to take over and own another sport, how to do that. Because Conor McGregor didn’t know how to do it. None of these other fighters know how to do it.

“So I’m going to go out and take up another profession and become the best at it. Show everyone I’m the best at that and then I’ll come here damn it again to get a motherf****** UFC title. The best title in the world.’

McGregor hit back on Twitter: ‘Ah come on, I absolutely stink. And with so much quality.

‘This has never been seen before what I do man. Please, you’re nothing without me. Please respect. I’d give you a handy slap. And Tony easy. I would have sawed Tony in half. 2 ham ball heads.

All of this comes after McGregor praised Diaz for his UFC career, despite also insisting that the trilogy fight between them “will happen.”

“Congratulations Nate Diaz on the end of his contractual obligations with the UFC and as a bona fide superstar visitor. An incredible achievement. Fair game. Our trilogy will happen.’

McGregor and Diaz have met twice before and their first meeting was a historic victory for Diaz in March 2016.

The Irishman avenged his defeat later that year, seemingly paving the way for a third fight, but the fight never got off the ground as the careers of both fighters evolved in different directions.
