NEW DELHI: Amid the violence in Manipur, the National People’s Party (NPP) has withdrawn its support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Manipur government under Chief Minister N Biren Singh, accusing them of failing to succeeded in resolving the crisis and restoring normality.
It is pertinent to mention that the Manipur Assembly was formed after the coalition of Bharatiya Janata Party, Naga People’s Front, Lok Janshakti Party and National People’s Party‘s 7 MLAs.

In a letter addressed to BJP chief JP Nadda, the nuclear power plant chief and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said they were witnessing a deteriorating situation in Mapur where several innocent people lost their lives and the public in the state experiences enormous suffering.
“We strongly believe that the Manipur State Government led by Shri Biren Singh has completely failed to resolve the crisis and restore normalcy,” the letter said.
“Taking into account the current situation, the National People’s Party has decided to withdraw its support to the Biren Singh-led government in the state of Manipur with immediate effect,” the letter said.
Violence broke out in Manipur on Saturday evening as protesters, seeking justice for six persons killed by militants in Jiribam district, took to the streets. The agitation intensified as protesters targeted the ancestral residence of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, along with the houses of three state ministers and six MLAs.
The protesters set fire to several properties, including PWD Minister Govindas Konthoujam’s house in Ningthoukhong, BJP MLA Y Radheshyam’s residence in Langmeidong Bazar, BJP MLA Paonam Brojen’s house in Thoubal district and Congress MLA Th’s property Lokeshwar in Imphal East district, according to official reports. .
Looking at the situation, the state government has imposed an indefinite curfew in Imphal and suspended internet services in parts of the state.
