'Conspiracy to divide society': Prime Minister Modi on the 200th anniversary of Shree Swaminarayan Mandir in Gujarat
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday warned against attempts to fragment society along caste, religious and linguistic lines, attributing the actions to those seeking personal gain.
Addressing a video conference during the 200th anniversary celebrations of the Shree Swaminarayan Mandir in Vadtal, Gujarat, Prime Minister Modi stressed the importance of unity in the face of these divisive agendas and urged collective action to safeguard national integrity protect.
“There is a conspiracy to divide society on the basis of caste, religion, language, high and low, men and women, villages and towns. It is important that we understand the gravity of this attempt by the national enemies, understand the crisis and all of us together must defeat such an act,” Modi said, underscoring the need for social cohesion.
He also emphasized on empowering youth, especially in sectors like IT, to ensure India’s progress and said, “Educated youth will become our greatest strength… The entire world is attracted by the capabilities of India’s youth.”
Prime Minister Modi praised the long-standing role of saints and sages in guiding humanity towards purpose and said, “Every person’s life has a purpose that defines it. When we discover the purpose of our lives, everything changes. Saints and sages in every age have helped humanity realize its purpose. This has been a tremendous contribution of saints and sages to our society.”

He celebrated the temple’s enduring influence as a symbol of Indian spiritual culture and values, saying Vadtal Dham, founded 200 years ago by Lord Swaminarayan, represented an “eternal stream of Indian culture.”
Marking the occasion, Prime Minister Modi noted that the government had released a commemorative silver coin of Rs 200 and a postage stamp. He also expressed pride in the Swaminarayan community’s association with government initiatives such as their environmental efforts.
“Every time I have given a call, all the saints and devotees have never disappointed me… Recently I had made a call, ‘Ek Ped Maa ke Naam.’ Under this campaign, the Swaminarayan community has planted more than 1,00,000 trees.”
Prime Minister Modi encouraged the community to promote the upcoming Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj globally and invited them to spread awareness about the cultural importance of the event.
He urged them to “educate people all over the world and explain to foreigners who are not of Indian origin what this Kumbh Mela is… This will be a work to spread awareness all over the world .”
Known as the spiritual center of the Swaminarayan Sampradaya, the Shree Swaminarayan Mandir in Vadtal has influenced Indian social and spiritual life for decades.
Built on the orders of Bhagwan Shree Swaminarayan, the temple’s unique lotus-shaped architecture and intricate stone carvings symbolize harmony among all religions and cultural richness.
