The President addressed a joint session of both Houses Parliament at the historic Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan on the occasion of Samvidhan Diwasin honor of the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution. The year-long celebrations will consist of outreach activities around four themes: ‘Preamble to the Constitution’, ‘Know your Constitution’, ‘The Making of the Constitution’ and ‘Celebrating the Glory of the Constitution’ .
“Constitutional ideals gain strength through the active participation of the executive, the legislature, the judiciary and all citizens,” the president said. In a gesture of unity and respect, Murmu led the reading of the preamble to the Constitution, followed by all MPs present. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha Deputy Speaker Harivansh, Leader of House of Representatives in Rajya Sabha JP Nadda, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi names place on the podium, underscoring the bipartisan respect for the Constitution.
Birla urged members to follow the Constituent Assembly’s tradition of constructive and dignified debates while deliberating on the Constitution.
“Our far-sighted makers of the Constitution have provided a system for the adoption of new ideas in accordance with the needs of the changing times. We have achieved many ambitious goals related to social justice and inclusive development through the Constitution. Such decisions have improved people’s lives. the people and provide them with new opportunities for development,” the President said.
She emphasized the fundamental duties of citizens such as safeguarding the unity and integrity of India, promoting harmony, ensuring the dignity of women, protecting the environment, developing scientific temperament and safeguarding public assets. Murmu said India has achieved a new identity in the world order and played a role in promoting international peace and security as envisioned by the makers of the Constitution. “Our country today is not only a leading economy but also plays this role very well, just like the Vishwa Bandhu,” she said.
Prioritize the nation above all else, Dhankhar tells MPs
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar highlighted the country’s progress, economic growth and democratic resilience and called on parliamentarians to prioritize the country above all else. Expressing concern over the declining discipline in parliamentary discourse, he said: “Disruption as a strategy threatens democratic institutions. It is time to restore the sanctity of our democratic temples through constructive dialogue, debate and meaningful discussion to serve people effectively .”
