Coral Bay, WA: Man bitten by horrific shark attack on remote beautiful beach
A man has been rushed to hospital with bite injuries after he was attacked by a shark despite warnings that the animals were congregating in the area.
Ambulance services rushed to Fourteen Mile Beach, on the northwest coast of Western Australia, after reports of a shark attack were received around 11am on Monday.
There they found a male victim mauled by an unknown species of shark and rushed him to a care station about 40km north in Coral Bay for treatment.
A spokesperson for the Western Australian Health Service confirmed the man’s condition is stable.
This came just hours after authorities issued a dire warning about sharks in the area after a whale carcass was spotted at Point Cloates, about 63km to the north.
Park and Wildlife Service officials advise beachgoers in the Point Cloates area to be careful in the water, as the carcass may attract sharks.
Swimmers near Fourteen Mile Beach are now also being urged to ‘exercise extra caution’ near the shore and to ‘be aware of any signs and beach closures’.
Just 10 minutes before the attack, a shark estimated at 4 metres long of an unknown species was spotted off the coast of Exmouth, according to SharkSmart.
