Costco is the latest grocery chain to make major price cuts
Costco Groceries are only getting cheaper. The big-box retailer becomes the latest major U.S. supermarket chain to announce price cuts in recent months. The membership-based mega-retailer unveiled in a earnings call last week that it had lowered prices on many of its signature Kirkland items. It’s a sign that cooling inflation is trickling down to where people need it most.
Earlier this year, Aldi a wave announced price reductions before summer to more than 250 essential groceries. Shortly afterwards, Target unveiled price cuts on more than 5,000 frequently purchased items. Costco, already known for its low prices on major groceries, becomes the third major retailer to make major changes to food prices, a welcome relief for American families trying to stay within their budgets.
In Monday’s call, Costco Chief Financial Officer Gary Millerchip mentioned the price of Kirkland products. These include macadamia nuts, which dropped from $19 to $14, 3-liter Spanish olive oil bottles (from $39 to $35), standard foil (from $32 to $30) and laundry packs (from $20 to $19). Millerchip also noted that Kirkland Signature Boneless Chicken Tenders were down as much as 13%.
