Covid Melbourne: Kylie Brown diagnosed with virus as Nova cluster grows

The Covid-19 cluster that emerged from Nova FM’s Melbourne studios has grown, with WAG Kylie Brown testing positive on Monday after falling unwell.

She is said to have contracted the virus from her husband, former AFL player Jonathan Brown, who co-hosts the Nova 100 breakfast show Chrissie, Sam and Browny.

The couple’s children, Olivia (12) and Jack, eight, also have Covid, but their youngest, seven-year-old Macy Rose, still tests negative.

Kylie, who is good friends with Bec Judd, shared the news on Instagram on Thursday.

“Unfortunately, Olivia and I tested positive for the spicy flu on Monday the 22nd after we had a great chat on Insta,” she wrote.

“Olivia had been dizzy, nauseous and had back pain for two days, but now she’s better. Just a stuffy nose.

Macy, the small gun, is still negative and tomorrow her quarantine period ends [Friday] but I’ll keep her at home until Monday and do some quick tests to be extra careful.’

Kylie said she was “the hardest hit in our family,” but getting some fresh air in the yard earlier in the week made her feel better.

She added: “Right now I’m just sleeping, hydrating and keeping up with checks and talking to the [healthcare] team every day.

Sitting outside in the sun was very nice yesterday [Wednesday]. I hope to be able to go out again soon.’

The esthetician said she was “extremely grateful to have been vaccinated” because her symptoms would almost certainly have been much worse had she not been double stung.

If you get vaccinated against Covid-19, you significantly reduce the chance of becoming seriously ill with the virus or hospitalization.

Kylie continued: ‘This is a scary virus and there are so many different symptoms and severity. Today was a tough day, but hopefully I’ll be round the corner tomorrow.’

Jonathan also addressed his wife and daughter who got Covid on Browny’s Podcast on Wednesday, saying: ‘The problem is I brought poor old Kyles down too.

“Think she’s suffering now. For a while it was just me and little Jack Brown, my eight-year-old son, who had it.

“The three girls hadn’t turned their world upside down yet, but now Olivia and Kylie have gone under.

“Little Macy, can you believe it, the youngest of the family, the seven-year-old, the little wonder woman, she has another negative test and she’s free as a bird, she’s back to school with her mates.”

Jonathan said he went to a friend’s 40th birthday party before feeling unwell last week and now concerned about the spread of the virus.

The other presenter, comedian Sam Pang, seems to have received everything clearly.

Kylie had confirmed earlier in the week that the family was still living under the same roof, despite her husband and son testing positive on Saturday.

‘[We try to] stay hydrated, confident and calm for the kids because there is a lot of hype and fear among our kids,” she said on Instagram Stories.

“Jack was shocked when it happened, but we reassured him and I think the most important thing is to reassure the kids.”

Kylie said of her son’s symptoms, “Jack had a slight fever for maybe an hour yesterday and he had growing pains and that’s all he’s had.”

She also talked about her decision not to isolate herself from Jonathan and Jack during their recovery.

“When it comes to our living situation, we are not isolated from the ‘rony boys’. The kids all sleep in the same bed, and I don’t sleep in the bed with JB, because he sweats it out and he smells a little,’ she said.

‘We just share everything and move on’ [with] live as normal and try to stay as calm as possible.’

Jonathan tested positive for Covid after he started feeling ill last Thursday while playing golf with his radio host Sam Pang.

The 40-year-old confirmed on Monday morning on his Nova 100 breakfast show Chrissie, Sam & Browny that he had been diagnosed with the respiratory virus.

“I’m going to pull the curtain here. On Thursday afternoon I said to Sam [Pang]I was golfing with him and I leaned on him and said, “I think this is the end.”

‘Pang will be my witness. I said to him in the parking lot Thursday night, I said, “I feel a little bit of a scammer, I’m not right.”

“I went home and told my wife, Kylie, I was going out for dinner that night.

“I said, ‘I don’t think I’ll be able to eat out,’ and she said, ‘Why don’t you do a quick test?’ because she had been a bit of a crook for a few days.

“Then it came positive and I called Pangy and called our work, Nova, and said I was positive pretty quickly. I think we should probably set up something where everyone is tested. So I did the right thing.’

Both Nova and stablemate Smooth FM were shut down for a deep clean after Melbourne station’s program director, Peter Clay, told the on-air talent to get tested Thursday night.

A spokesperson for the network said: ‘We take the health, safety and privacy of all our employees very seriously.

“We continue to adhere to and follow all current state government health advice and directions to maintain a safe workplace for all of our employees.”
