‘Crisis in Manipur is due to…’: CM N Biren Singh reiterates role of ‘foreign hand’ behind violence | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday said the recent arrest of a Burmese member of the Kuki National Army confirms his contention that the ongoing crisis in the state is being fomented by outsiders.
The hymn of praise to the Assam Rifles for arresting the Burmese national along the international border, Singh said: “I appreciate the actions of the Assam Rifles, which arrested a Burmese national. As the Prime Minister, I have consistently maintained from the beginning that the current crisis in Manipur is due to outsiders, foreign hands. But some people believe it, some do not.”
“But I appreciate the Assam Rifles, which arrested a foreigner with evidence of supply of arms to militants operating in Manipur,” he added.
Meanwhile, the government has lifted the temporary suspension of internet services in the territorial jurisdiction of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching districts.
“The State Government has decided to lift all forms of internet blockade in the State of Manipur imposed in good faith as a preventive measure in the public interest,” an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs said.
The temporary suspension of internet services in 5 districts was implemented from 3pm on September 10 due to student protests demanding the removal of the DGP and the security advisor over their alleged failure to militant attacksThe protests led to clashes with security forces, injuring more than 80 people, including students and police officers.
The decision also calls on all Internet users to refrain from activities that could lead to situations in the future that would justify the suspension of Internet services.
