Customer’s heartless act leaves young supermarket worker ‘traumatized’ – and it was all caught on camera

Shocking footage has captured the moment a thief allegedly stole $330 in cash after distracting an employee while he paid for a can of soda at a convenience store.

The incident happened at 10.15am on Sunday at a Betros Brothers store on Russel Street in Toowoomba, west of Brisbane.

The man, wearing a hoodie and face mask, was captured on CCTV walking towards the checkout with a bottle of water and a can of Red Bull.

The man paid with coins, but while the 15-year-old employee was processing the payment, he reached out and reportedly took some money.

He reportedly fled with the money, bottles of water and soda when the young employee tried to stop him.

Two other staff members gave chase, but the man managed to escape and was last seen walking along a railway line.

The store’s owner, Bevan Betros, said the young employee was traumatised by the incident.

“It’s terrible what’s happening here,” he said 7 News.

‘You don’t need that, especially not in a store full of people.’

Betros Brothers stores have been targeted several times in the past by thieves who attempted to steal items from the store in 2023.

In another incident, two women got into a wild brawl, with the two hitting each other several times.

Mr Betros says he is fed up with the behaviour and has called on locals to try and identify the man believed to have been involved in the latest incident.

“What are we doing here? What is this all about?” he said.

‘How long is this going to last?’

A Queensland Police spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia that officers were still trying to locate the man.

“The investigation is still ongoing,” the spokeswoman said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police.
