A cyclist who died after he was hit by a bus near Taronga Dierenentuin in Sydney was a very influential figure behind the scenes in Australian Motorsport.

Father of two Tim Miles, 58, was hit at Bradley’s head road in Mosman, on Sydney‘s Lower North Shore, around 10.35 am on Sunday.

Emergency services ran on stage and a specialized medical team was flown in by the care department, but unfortunately he died his injuries.

The bus driver was not injured and taken to the hospital for mandatory tests.

The four passengers on board the bus were not injured at that time.

Mr. Miles, who led a successful business consultancy firm, was an avid cyclist who was out for his weekly ride when the tragedy struck, with his wife and two daughters who shared that they had lost a ‘clear, radiant light’.

Miles, born in Ashburton, New -Zeeland, also became an ‘extraordinary figure’ in Australian Motorsport.

Early he raced in Formula Ford before moving to Great -Britain, where he worked in Formula 3 and the British Touring Car Championship, where he helped to win multiple titles.

After he returned to Australia, he was co-founder of Tasman Motorsport who participated in Supercars between 2004 and 2009.

He then became a shareholder in Triple Eight Race Engineering and through his business consultancy he helped major deals for the Supercars Championship.

The first was the sale to Archer Capital in 2011 and later to Racing Australia Consolidated Enterprises (Race) in 2021.

He also continued his racing career that participated in the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, the GT3 Cup Challenge and GT World Challenge Australia.

This year he participated in Le Mans in the Mustang Challenge Invitational.

“Supercars is expanding its deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Tim Miles, who unfortunately died,” said a spokesperson for the organization.

‘Tim was an extraordinary figure in Australian Motorsport, not only for his work behind the wheel, but for the enormous influence he had for more than two decades of the circuit.

‘As a business adviser and former teamowner, Tim played a crucial role in shaping the future of sport. Through his company, Miles Advisory Partners, he played an important role in the sale of Supercars to Archer Capital in 2011 – a historic transaction that the championship has converted into what it is today.

‘Our thoughts are with Tim’s loved ones in this difficult time. He will be missed enormously through the entire Supercars community. ‘
