David Morrow: Football pays emotional tribute to legendary commentator for State of Origin… but idiot fan ruins moving moment with three-word appeal
- Footy paid tribute to David Morrow ahead of State of Origin on Wednesday
David Morrow was praised ahead of State of Origin on Wednesday night.
The NRL Hall of Fame commentator has died at the age of 71 after a battle with brain cancer, with football governing bodies coming together to pay their respects to the commentator adored by millions.
Both NSW and Queensland held a minute’s silence before kick-off of the crucial Origin match at Suncorp Stadium.
But one fan interrupted the poignant moment by shouting during the silence: ‘Let’s go critter’.
“Whoever just yelled “let’s go critta” during that moment of silence for David Morrow should be punched in the face repeatedly, that disrespectful ****,” one fan posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Another fan said: ‘There’s always that idiot in the audience who can’t keep quiet’.
“WHO JUST SCREAMED DURING A MINUTE OF SILENCE,” a third fan posted.
“People who screamed during the minutes of silence deserve a push in the head,” said a fourth fan.
Another fan said: ‘I always love it when people scream during moments of silence. Respect is clearly a quality that is hard to find for some idiots’
But aside from that interruption, it was a wonderful tribute befitting Morrow’s contribution to the match.
His former colleague, radio announcer Ray Hadley, delivered the sad news on his 2GB show on Wednesday.
“I’ve worked with a lot of people in broadcasting over a long period of time. There’s no more versatile sports commentator than David Morrow,” Hadley said after revealing that Morrow died around midnight on Tuesday, surrounded by his family.
“He will be missed by everyone.”
