A day after the former government Andrew M. Cuomo landed the coveted approval of Michael R. Bloomberg in his attempt to become mayor of New York City, Mr. Cuomo was supported on Wednesday by two more name of the name brand.
The last notes came from former Gov. David Paterson and Keith LT Wright, the chairman of the Democratic Party of Manhattan. Four years ago, both men had supported the current mayor, Eric Adams, who now runs as independent.
“We were with him when he ran,” said Mr. Paterson. “We thought he did well until he had these problems,” referring to the federal corruption of Mr Adams who was dropped by the Trump government earlier this year.
Mr Paterson suggested that Mr. Adams seemed obliged to President Trump In a way that was incompatible with how a democratic mayor of New York City should act. “Some explanations,” Mr Paterson said, “have been much more supportive than I think the president deserves.”
Of Early mood For the Democratic Primary for Mayor, on Saturday and the last debate about the primary set for Thursday, the two front runners, Mr. Cuomo and Zohran Mamdani, are working on a fight to secure influential notes.
Mr. Cuomo also picked up the support of the Satmars on Wednesday, a large orthodox Jewish group in Brooklyn and part of an important voice block. A day before he was Supported by Mr. BloombergHe rarely wads in the primary arguments of New York City.
Mr. Mamdani scored the most coveted approval among his colleague-left candidates when he recently landed the support of representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, standard carrier of New York from the left. He also won top instructions from representative Nydia Velázquez and the Working Families Party.
For the majority of the campaign, Mr Cuomo has aimed his candidacy on his experience and performance as a Governor, including various Run-ins with President Trump during his first term. But on Wednesday Mr. Cuomo shifted his messages to attack Mr Mamdani, in apparent recognition that the competition seems to have become a race with two people.
He wondered if Mr. Mamdani, a 33-year-old two-mine assembly from Queens, had sufficient experience and gravitas to lead the largest and most complex city in the country.
“There are some particular, basic skills to be mayor,” said Mr. Cuomo. “Can you manage it? Do you know something about Washington? Do you have something about the congress? Can you build projects? Have you ever adopted legislation?”
Then Cuomo, without immediately mentioning the name of Mr Mamdani, referred to the thin report of the assemblyer as a state legislator. ‘He has only taken three accounts in his own house. “
Mr. Wright, who served as chairman of the Democratic Party under Mr. Cuomo, said that the reputation of the former governor for completing important projects, such as Terminal B of Laguardia Airport, is what the city needs. “When Andrew says he is going to build 500,000 units of affordable homes, I believe him.”
As the race starts its last days, questions from leadership, experience and those who have the most Chutzpah to stand up against President Trump have dominated the game. Mr. Cuomo spent a lot of his press conference and claimed that he was not afraid to hire Mr Trump because he had done this during the pandemic.
Mr Cuomo predicted that Mr Trump would eventually try to send federal troops to the city to suppress protests about the efforts of his administration to deport immigrants as he did in Los Angeles.
“It is authoritarianism in the way we have never seen it before,” said Mr. Cuomo.
Mr. Mamdani has the Questions about his experience and age. He pointed to the success of his current campaign, of which he said he is marching his ability to support his ideas. He also said that if he was chosen, he would hire the “best and smartest” to help him.
“Zohran is proud of the experience not to have to expose the MTA, cut medicaid, enable the Republicans and resign in shame after being credible accused of serial sexual harassment,” said Andrew Epstein, a spokesperson for Mr. Mamdani, referring to Mr Cuomo. “New Yorkers are ready for a new generation of leadership that is taking on Donald Trump and is not financed by the same billionaires who have put him back in office.”
Mr. Mamdani was also hit by a surprise attack on Tuesday by Adrienne Adams, the city council speaker whose attempt to qualify for the generous matching-funds program of the city he helped. Mr. Mamdani made his own followers an unusual profession to help Mrs. Adams.
Nevertheless, Mrs. Adams criticized Mr Mamdani on social media because they wanted to abolish immigration and customs enforcement. “A lawless president does not mean that we abolish the entire agencies and our laws,” she wrote. The mail has since been removed.
Mrs Adams, who spoke at a press conference in the town hall, said that the post was “misinterpreted” and that it did not transfer what she meant to convey. She has charged to prevent federal agents from gaining access to Rikers Island Jail Complex.
“My focus was always on Donald Trump,” said Mrs. Adams.
