NEW DELHI: Congressman on Sunday expressed concern over the deteriorating quality of food served on the Vande Bharat Express after passengers complained about the presence of insects and cockroaches in meals. Calling on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who inaugurated the Vande Bharat Express: Manickam Tagore questioned the IRCTC’s fine of “just Rs 50,000” and demanded ‘strict action and systemic reforms’.

Following complaints from passengers, the food sample of the Tirunelveli – Chennai Egmore Vande Bharat Express was found to be contaminated, the IRCTC response said.
“For this negligence, a fine of Rs. 50,000 imposed on the contractor, Ms. Brindavan Food products, and further action is being taken. The railway is conducting a detailed investigation into the
incident, taking into account all possibilities regarding the source of the contamination,” the report said.
In October, director-actor R Parthiban expressed concern over poor food quality on the Vande Bharat train. In response, the Salem division railway manager apologized and promised to take action against the caterer responsible.
