Deaths at Delhi coaching centre: 4 co-owners granted bail; asked to deposit Rs 5 crore with Red Cross | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday provisional bail to the four co-owners of the cellar where three IAS aspirants drowned.
The bail, valid until January 30, 2025, is contingent on the deposit of Rs 5 crore to the Red Cross.
The drowning occurred on July 27, 2024, when heavy rainfall caused flooding in the basement of Rau’s IAS study circle in Old Rajinder Nagar. The victims were Shreya Yadav (25) from Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni (25) from Telangana and Nevin Delvin (24) from Kerala.
Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma criticized the co-owners—Parvinder Singh, Tajinder Singh, Harvinder Singh and Sarbjit Singh—for their role in renting out the unsafe basement. The court condemned their actions as motivated by greed.
The court also directed the Delhi Lt. Governor to form a committee headed by a retired Supreme Court judge. This committee will ensure that coaching centers work only with the appropriate approvals and in the designated areas.
The CBI opposed the bail plea, arguing that the investigation is still at an early stage and no bail should be granted until independent witnesses are heard.
