‘Deeply concerned over attack on my friend’: PM Modi on shooting at Donald Trump rally | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Following an assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep concern and strongly condemned the attack. He said that violence has no place in politics and democracies and wished the former president a quick recovery.
“I am deeply concerned about the attack on my friend, former President Donald Trump. I strongly condemn the incident. Violence has no place in politics and democracies. I wish him a speedy recovery,” PM Modi posted on X.
The Prime Minister also expressed his support and condolences to the victims of the incident.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased, the injured and the American people,” he said.
The incident occurred at Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania, when an unidentified suspect fired shots at the former president. Video footage showed Trump falling to the ground with a bloody ear, then getting back up holding his ear and shouting “fight, fight, fight.”
The suspect and a meeting attendee were killed in the shooting.
In 2020, Prime Minister Modi welcomed then-President Trump to India as a mark of their friendship. The two leaders embraced at the ‘Namaste Trump’ event at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad. This followed Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the US in 2019 at the invitation of President Trump for the ‘Howdy Modi’ event.
