Delayed to early 2025, while Microsoft announces release date

Obsidian’s upcoming action-RPG Avowed has been delayed. The game was originally scheduled for release in late 2024, but will now release early next year. Microsoft has confirmed that Avowed will launch on February 18, 2025. Additionally, the Xbox parent company reiterated its list of upcoming first-party titles, along with their release windows and dates. The decision to delay Avowed is likely intended to give the Obsidian RPG some breathing room amid a busy video game release calendar for late 2024.

Admittedly delayed

The official Xbox account on X posted the update about the delay on Saturday, confirming that Avowed had been moved to February 18, 2025. “We have so many games coming! As such, we’re moving Avowed to February 18, 2025 to give players some breathing room for their backlogs,” the post read.

Avowed was originally set to release in fall 2024, but no concrete release date has been set yet.

In the post, Microsoft also listed its slate of announced first-party games, confirming their respective release dates and windows. Bethesda’s Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is still scheduled for release in 2024, while Starfield’s Shattered Space expansion is also set to release sometime later this year.

Avowed now joins first-party Xbox titles South of Midnight, Doom: The Dark Ages, and Fable on the 2025 release calendar.

Microsoft has confirmed its presence at the upcoming Gamescom showcase, taking place from August 21 to 25, where it will showcase more than 50 titles from Xbox Game Studios, Blizzard, Bethesda and other third-party partners. The Xbox parent company has also confirmed that it will host theatrical screenings of Avowed, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Starfield: Shattered Space during the event.

Avowed was first announced at Xbox Games Showcased in 2020 and was detailed in a new trailer at the company’s Developer Direct event earlier this year. The first-person action-RPG is releasing on PC, Xbox Series S/X, and Game Pass on February 18, 2025.
