  • The traveler posted a photo on Reddit showing his broken TV
  • To make matters worse, the disgruntled passenger wasn’t even given an upgrade
  • Many commentators advised the passenger to file a complaint about the incident

An airline passenger expressed his frustration after flying Delta for nine hours without a working TV. Commenters said the ‘rawdogging trend has gone too far.’

The travel phenomenon known as “rawdogging” – which involves consuming no form of entertainment during a flight other than the basic maps and data displayed on seatback screens – has recently become popular, but this passenger clearly wasn’t on board with the trend.

The passenger expressed his displeasure on Reddit by uploading a photo showing that the screen of his seat back is broken. Other rows in front of him also experienced the same problem.

The post reads: “We and the five rows in front of us have no entertainment system or charger (thankfully I charged my phone battery, but others who have never been to this country are panicking) for a nine-hour international flight.”

To make matters worse, the disgruntled passenger said Delta had upgraded people on standby to Comfort Plus status, and they were not upgraded despite being “first on the upgrade list with their Medallion status.”

They polled Redditors: “Is it wrong to ask for extra Medallion points or miles in general? I just feel like I got screwed and I’m wondering if I deserve extra or not.”

The post quickly generated dozens of responses, with many advising the passenger to file a complaint about the incident.

One Redditor wrote: ‘Delta is a company, not a friend… If you’re being inconvenienced in any way, there’s no reason not to message them to score points.

‘I got 5,000 points because the display wasn’t working on a 2.5 hour flight, I think.’

Another Redditor echoed similar sentiments, revealing: ‘I recently went through the same thing. I complained through the online system and they gave me 3,000 miles.

“At least it’s something. What was interesting is that someone actually called to tell me.”

Some commenters joked that the poster was forced into “involuntary rawdogging,” while others criticized the fact that they had no alternative source of entertainment.

Someone wrote: ‘Things break and problems happen, that’s just life, especially with how dependent we are on technology these days.

‘Absolute [the original poster] You should ask for some money or miles back, but if you don’t fly with plan B and plan C, that’s your problem.

‘Always have a book or something on your phone handy. Even if it’s stuff you’ve already seen, at least you have something.

‘I travel a lot for work and although it is a lot of weight, I always have my work laptop, SteamDeck, phone and adapter with me.

“When you travel a lot, you see it all and I want to be prepared.”

The original poster responded to the suggestion to file a complaint by saying he was reluctant due to previous experiences with the airline’s customer service.

They explained: ‘I’m concerned that I’ve made complaints before and all they do is say, “We appreciate your feedback” and nothing happens.’

They also noted that the flight attendants had attempted to fix the problem by resetting the screens, but that this was “to no avail.”

They acknowledged that it was not the flight attendants’ fault, adding: “I worked in customer service, so I get it. I’m just frustrated with Delta, not the flight attendants.”
