NEW DELHI: Trinamool Congress MP Sagarika Ghose, has a privileged movement notice in RajyaSabha on Thursday against Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, on behalf of all INDIA bloc parties, for making ‘derogatory remarks’ against the opposition leaders in the House of Representatives. According to sources, the notice was signed by 60 MPs from the opposition party.

Asked about the privilege notice against Rijiju, Ghosh said, “Yesterday, Mr. Rijiju said in the House, while addressing the Opposition, that all of you are not worthy to be in this House…The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Mr Kiren Rijiju, instead of doing his best to ensure the smooth functioning of Parliament, has chosen to repeatedly insult the opposition,” while speaking to reporters.
“Rijiju has insulted opposition members and used personal terms both inside and outside parliament. This is completely out of character for the high office he holds and amounts to a total abuse of his position,” the TMC MP said.
On Wednesday, Rijiju had said opposition MPs are ‘not worthy to be in the House of Representatives’ as they lashed out opposition parties for their attacks on the Vice President, who is also the Chairman of Rajya Sabha. “If you cannot respect the Speaker, you have no right to be a member of this House,” Rijiju had said.
Taking offense to Rijiju’s words, the TMC MP has filed a privilege motion against the minister for abusing his office with his “rants and unparliamentary language” against the opposition, Ghosh said, adding that the motion was signed by senior leaders of all opposition parties.
On Tuesday, 60 MPs from the opposition bloc INDIA signed a notice tabled in the Rajya Sabha for moving a no-confidence motion against Dhankhar, accusing him of being “extremely partisan” in his role as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
