Desperate for a MacBook Pro M4? Here’s some good news: Another rumor firmly points to a later 2024 launch
If the latest rumors surrounding the next generation of laptops are to be believed, Apple’s MacBook Pro with M4 is scheduled to launch in the fourth quarter of 2024.
This comes from Ross Young, a longtime source of Apple information who heads Display Supply Chain Consultants, who previously told us that a MacBook Pro M4 is coming later in 2024.
That speculation was based on the timing of display shipments for the MacBook Pro M4 in Q3. Apple Insider According to reports, Young just told us that the displays for the MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch with M4 silicon started shipping in July and August, exactly as predicted.
Of course, this ties into a theoretical Q4 launch: The laptop displays need to ship well in advance so that the devices themselves can be assembled, tested, and shipped, Young noted in a post on X that, oddly enough, has since been deleted.
In short, chances are the MacBook Pro M4 will be unveiled in the fall (September or October), followed by laptops going on sale shortly after.
Analysis: M4 Macs in abundance
MacBook Pro M4 rumors have been fairly consistent and have been popping up fairly regularly these days, so we can never be certain whether anything will actually come from the rumor mill, but a late 2024 release seems like a pretty good possibility when you add up all the individual speculation.
There is an oddity here, as mentioned, namely that Young deleted his post on X. It’s a bit unusual for this to happen, given that Young and other known leakers are constantly releasing details they shouldn’t – but perhaps this particular bit has hurtfully offended someone (a source, presumably)? We can only (ironically) speculate.
These MacBook Pros likely won’t be the only Apple devices this year to get the M4 processor, which has so far only been found in the iPad Pro. Leaker Mark Gurman also expects Mac mini and iMac models with the M4 SoC to launch later in 2024. (The iMac could get bigger with a larger-screen model, while the Mac mini M4 could get smaller, incidentally.)
We’ll undoubtedly get other M4 machines next year, and Gurman thinks they’ll be the MacBook Air (which is definitely happening), Mac Pro, and Mac Studio.
