Detective Dotson Gets Dynamic Split-Screen Co-Op on Xbox Series S/X
Masala Games, the Ahmedabad-based developers behind indie title Detective Dotson, have detailed co-op play features for the game. The Indian mystery-adventure game will feature dedicated levels for two-player co-op, separate from single-player cases. Co-op play will also feature a selection of characters, each with their own unique abilities that will benefit players in specific scenarios. Detective Dotson was announced in March, and received a gameplay trailer at the Future Games Show last month, before being confirmed for Xbox Series S/X consoles.
Detective Dotson Confirmed To Get Couch Co-Op Mode With Xbox announcement trailer in June. In an Xbox Wire after On Monday, Masala Games CEO Shalin Shodhan explained how the mode would work on the Xbox Series S/X versions of the game.
Co-op cases in Detective Dotson will feature special levels that can be experienced by two players. These cases sit on top of the separate single-player cases and feature dynamic split-screen for couch co-op play. “This means that the screen won’t split in two if you’re both in the same room. It will only split if you and your friend are far enough apart,” Shodhan explained. Detective Dotson’s co-op campaign will also let players choose their own characters, who will have unique special abilities that help solve cases.
According to the developers, the game’s co-op mode was developed specifically for the current generation of Xbox consoles, made possible by the ID@Xbox Developer Accelerator Program (DAP) grant.
Detective Dotson was first announced in March, with a demo made available to play on Steam. The game was announced for Xbox Series S/X consoles in June with a new trailer.
The cozy mystery-adventure title is inspired by Bollywood and Indian culture, and features pixel-art-style visuals reminiscent of real-world Indian cities. Players take control of the titular detective and take on cases, gather clues, and unravel mysteries. Detective Dotson is set to launch early next year on Xbox Series S/X and PC (via Steam).
