Diet Guru Tim Spector Reveals Surprisingly Decadent Daily Diet He Claims Prevents Cancer and Diabetes
Diet guru Professor Tim Spector has revealed what he eats in a day to keep his health in tip-top shape – and reduce his risk of cancer and type 2 diabetes.
In a video posted to social media, the top nutritionist and founder of the ZOE diet app (which has two million subscribers) said he wanted to answer the question he “gets asked the most.”
Professor Spector’s plan focuses on foods that improve gut health, which he claims is crucial to warding off a host of diseases.
In the TikTok video, which has been viewed 42.6K times, Professor Spector reveals his healthy yet indulgent dishes, most of which are plant-based.
His daily menu consisted of a variety of surprisingly high-calorie dishes, including soft cheese as a snack and curry.
Gut health is a top priority for the founder of the Zoe health app and professor of genetic epidemiology at King’s College London, who says diversity in your diet is crucial to warding off diseases like cancer and type 2 diabetes.

He said, “For my gut health, I mainly make sure I eat as many plants as possible and always add in some fermented foods if I can.
‘My day usually starts with yogurt, kefir and lots of fresh fruit, nuts and seeds.
‘For lunch I made a quick salad with seasonal vegetables, topped with a kefir-based dressing.
‘I had some cheese crackers and kimchi for an appetizer, and for dinner I made a vegetable curry with rice. And guess what, I stirred in some kefir at the end so I got all the probiotic benefits.’
Professor Spector has previously praised beans and legumes for being ‘anti-inflammatory, anti-obesity, anti-carcinogenic, neuroprotective’ and good for your ‘immune response’.
That’s because, he explains, beans are high in fiber, as well as protein and polyphenols, a type of antioxidant that “feeds” healthy gut bacteria.
Fresh fruits and vegetables, supplemented with a hefty dose of gut-boosting kefir, are on the menu for the top nutritionist who shared his typical daily habits in a TikTok video while enjoying the sunshine in Spain

According to data from Cancer Research UK, one in three cases of colorectal cancer could be linked to eating too little fibre.
Fiber in the diet helps food move through the digestive tract better, meaning harmful chemicals stay in the intestines for less time.
According to Professor Spector, eating a variety of fruits, vegetables and fermented foods such as kimchi can also diversify the bacteria in your gut, which is thought to be the foundation for better overall health, well-being and the ability to ward off disease.
Although scientists don’t know exactly how, gut microbes influence blood sugar levels, how well fats are digested and how quickly those fats are cleared from the body, Professor Spector claims.
He adds that both high blood sugar and poor digestion lead to inflammation throughout the body.

Inflammation is your immune system’s response to an illness or injury that helps you fight the illness or heal properly. This can be good.
But if the reaction persists, it can lead to long-term conditions such as arthritis, heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and cancer, according to the nutrition website Zoe.
A 2021 study The substances in kefir have been shown to reduce the activity of proteins that activate immune responses and cause inflammation.
Kefir can help with weight loss. This is very important because excess weight can cause the body to produce more inflammation.
