“I wish someone had told me as a child how good it is to sleep on your back,” Dita exclaimed.
She admitted that she has trained herself to sleep on her back over the past few years and that it has “worked wonders.”
“If you think about it, if you sleep on your side, I know where my one wrinkle comes from,” she explained.
“That’s because you sleep with your face on the pillow.”
Dita used several methods to train herself to sleep on her back, including a timer and meditation.
“I lay there like a zombie, closing my eyes and sleeping with my palms up,” she continued.
“It puts my shoulders back and I think, OK, everything is fine.”
Bunnie wondered how Dita had trained herself not to move during the night. She replied that she is a “light sleeper” and can usually “catch” herself when she changes positions.
“I’ve actually gotten good at it…” she said.
“If I feel like I need to sleep on my side, I now raise the pillow a little bit so that my face still isn’t crushed by it.”
Dita concluded by saying that it’s “all fun and games” until “the collagen starts flowing.”
And her beloved sunglasses also sometimes leave marks on her face.
But she won’t give it up easily.
“They’ll stay all day,” she promised.
Dita Von Teese’s Top 5 Beauty Secrets
DITA shared more of her beauty tips and tricks in her book Your Beauty Mark: The Ultimate Guide to Eccentric Glamour . Here are five of her top suggestions:
- Drink lemon water every morning – “Lemons are high in vitamin C, which is good for your skin and bones. They are a natural diuretic and help flush out toxins and waste,” she explains.
- Breast is best – Dita takes as much care of her cleavage as she does her face. She thinks we should wash our chests as often as we brush our teeth.
- Lining trick – When it comes to choosing a lip liner, Dita advises choosing one that is one shade darker than your lipstick, “for both visual effect and longevity.”
- I’m hot – While many people swear by avoiding heat styling products on their hair, Dita claims it works wonders for her raven locks. She applies a hair mask twice a week, before covering it with a shower cap and blow-drying. “The heat opens up the cuticle, allowing the formula to really hydrate the hair shaft,” she said.
- Multifunctional products – You’ll mostly use it for your face, but Dita said a powder brush is key to keeping pesky frizz at bay. “Just spritz it with hairspray” before “running the damp brush over baby hairs on the top, sides, back, and hairline.”
Opinions on Dita’s tips were divided in the comments. One person wrote: “Am I the only one who thinks it’s more important to sleep well your whole life than to look younger than you are for half your life?”
“I started sleeping on my back a few months ago and now I have the most vivid, scary dreams,” said someone else.
“When I sleep on my back I get sleep paralysis,” added a third.
“I’m a rotisserie chicken when I sleep. I have no control over these things,” argued someone else.
“When I try to sleep on my back I just can’t sleep lol,” wrote another.
