DIY enthusiast makes ivy leaf privacy fence for £13.99 to keep neighbours from looking
A DIY enthusiast has converted his old fence into an ivy leaf trellis for £13.99, stopping his neighbours from peering onto their patio.
Jack, who works in marketing, was able to employ some clever, money-saving tricks when installing the privacy screen on his fence.
And many people couldn’t believe how cheap it was, some even paying double for their own fence.
The homeowner started with an old, dated fence with holes, which didn’t give him much privacy on his patio.
Jack, 32, decided he wanted to build an ivy trellis, which would look nice and give him some privacy while relaxing in his garden.
He started by applying masking tape around the fence, to protect certain areas from paint.
He then gave the fence a new lick of black paint, called Cuprinol 5 year ducksback from Wickes.
The paint, which he priced at £9 on sale instead of £15, was enough to cover the entire fence from top to bottom and then dried.
Jack, originally from Worcestershire, then removed the tape and fitted a privacy screen, complete with cables and cable ties, which he bought on eBay for £4.99.
Since the work was completed, the fence has survived the wind and rain.
Jack, who regularly posts about his DIY projects on his TikTok page @homeno7says: “It’s been good so far. We’ve had all four seasons this summer.”
He adds: “We wanted to do this because our neighbours’ windows look out onto the patio next to us and the front of the property.
“I am now considering installing a fence in other places in my garden, because I am very pleased with the result.
Jack also revealed that the gate now has a secret dual function.
He says: “Also a great photo wall if you have friends over.”
Jack revealed that many other DIY enthusiasts are also big fans of his creation.
