DIYer Swears By 7-Color Room — Feels Like an Interior Designer Did It
A DIYer has revealed a seven-colour room that will make any home look like it was designed by a professional.
And when interior mentor Claire shares this trick with others, “it often blows people away.”

She went to her TikTok page @thatcotswoldclaire and shared her smart tips, which have now been liked by more than 30,000 people.
Claire wrote in the video: “The decorating trick that will make you feel like a pro at home!
“Choose colors for your walls and accessories and create the dream home you’ve always dreamed of.”
She says, “Whenever I share this, it always blows people away.”
Claire started by explaining that this trick will create a home that feels like it was designed by an interior designer.
She says, “It’s as simple as committing to your color choices. Between five and seven colors that you bring into your home and you only use those colors.”
Claire explained that homeowners simply need to make sure they get their hands on paint color charts, which they can pick up for free at their local decorator’s store.
She says, “These are made by experts. There is a lot of science behind how they group the colors in there.
“But you don’t need to know that, because they’ve already done the hard work for you.
“All colors that run horizontally are colors you want to capture.”
Claire then turns the color chart over and explains in more detail how it works.
Pointing to a row of colors, she says the colors running horizontally will work because they are similar “tones and shades.”
She emphasizes that they are the same undertones, but with more white or more black added.

Claire says, “Don’t be afraid to choose a bright color because it will still complement the lighter colors.”
She’s always surprised that people don’t know about this decorating trick, but it’s “such an easy way” to make your home look like it was painted by a professional.
Claire continues: “It’s also important to remember that this is where people often go wrong.
“It is not necessary to have all those colours appear throughout the entire painting.

“This means that you might want to have one colour on the walls and then you can bring all the other colours back into the soft furnishings and accessories in your room.
“So even though you choose your five colors from a paint card, you’re not following through on those five color choices by not using real paint.
“Think about using two or three of them as paint. You could have something on your walls, something on your ceiling, and something on your woodwork.
“Then the other colors would be brought in different ways – [e.g] Carpets, curtains, sofas, even accessories such as candles.”

The viral TikTok video attracted a lot of attention with many people taking to the comments to share their opinions.
Someone wrote: “Oh my god… where have you been this whole time?! I’m in the process of decorating my entire house right now and this is a godsend.”
Another added: “Wow, who would have thought… not me. Thanks for the warning.”
Someone else said: “I don’t think this is true. From my research it seems best to mix items that are opposite each other on the color wheel – green and pink for example.”
To which Claire explained: “Yes, it’s called a complementary colour scheme… choosing opposing colours creates great impact and contrast and is another option which I shared a video about further down my feed.”
Claire is a big fan of interiors and is currently working on a big DIY project.
She says: “In addition to TikTok, I also document my own ecological DIY project on Instagram.
“My husband and I are responsible for the project and we also do the interior.
“We are moving at the end of September, after four long years of construction.”
