Summer is here, and if you are something like me, you noticed that you longed for a refreshing cold brewed coffee. It is not only nice to cool on a warm day, it has brewed a different taste profile than coffee, with a smoother, more soft taste, even if you use the same beans.
There is only one problem: making it in the traditional way means that you penetrate your ground coffee at night, or even longer to extract the full taste. That is fine if you are super organized, but don’t use much if you just want your coffee.
Fortunately, modern coffee machines mean that that is no longer a problem. I am lucky to test a huge number of coffee makers for TechRadar, and this year all major brands have added cold brewing to their list of functions.
Ninja, Breville (or sage, and it is known in the UK) and De’Longhi have all launched new machines that can brew cold water in seconds instead of hours, and produce a very similar taste as a traditional cold brew.
The trick is to allow the coffee longer than usual to take care of, or blooms before the cold water forces through at high pressure-visits in pulses instead of a continuous current for a longer extraction time.
With the Ninja Luxury Café” De’Longhi Primadonna Aromaticand the updated Sage Barista Touch with cold extraction All great tasting cold recordings, you are spoiled of your choice, but for me a machine is particularly above the rest: the Jura J10.
Most coffee machines that can brew cold do an admirable work when you enjoy your drinks without milk, but only a few can also foam cold milk, and as a fan of a good latte macchiato, I really appreciate that.
The De’Longhi Primadonna Aromatic does an excellent job of texturing cold milk (dairy or vegetable-based) and comes with a special carafe for foaming it without using steam. It works brilliantly, but what the Jura J10 gives the lead is the ability to change not only of any form of milk into a downy cloud of cooled foam, but to infuse it at the same time with syrup.
This system, called Sweetfoam, includes filling a small container with the syrup you chose and then carefully pushes it on the milk dispenser. The syrup (which can be any taste, and sugar -free or not) is slightly absorbed in the milk at the same time while it is delivered, so that it is evenly distributed over your drink and means that a bit of a long way goes; It is not necessary to pump huge volumes syrup into your cup like a barista in a coffee shop.
It also works well with hot milk, so when the weather cools again, you can enjoy the pumpkin herb latte of your dreams.
The syrup never enters the coffee maker itself and the dispenser purifies itself after use with hot water, so you don’t have to worry about sticky mess. The container is easy to wash with soap water.
In my opinion it is the Best espresso machine For cooled drinks. There is only one disadvantage: the Jura J10 costs (get deep breath) £ 1,795 / au $ 3,990, which amounts to around $ 2,300. No matter how sweet you make your lattes, that is a bitter pill for swallowing. When I was borrowed one for testing, it was packed in a padded fly skin instead of the usual cardboard box with polystyrene inserts. It is usually not delicate – it is just that expensive.
The good news is that if that price is difficult to tolerate, one of the other cold brewing machines that are now available can produce a smooth, well -rounded drink. You don’t get the tasteful foam, but you can still make refreshing, tasty cooled drinks in seconds instead of hours.
