She said there’s an everyday essential hidden in your kitchen cupboard that will do wonders to regrow hair.

Discussing the effects of androgenetic alopecia, the most common form of hair loss in men and women, she said it often starts at the temples in men and at the top of the head in women.

Hair loss and a lack of new hair growth can not only be frustrating, it can also completely ruin your self-confidence, leaving you to buy expensive products that promise to solve the problem.

But the hair care expert revealed you don’t have to spend a fortune to regrow your hair.

Doctor Bowring revealed: “Add coffee to shampoo for hair growth.”

She added, “So caffeine has been proven to help with hair growth,” and showed an on-screen study that supported these claims.

The doctor recommended bringing out the kitchen supplies and mixing a small amount with your shampoo before applying it to your scalp.

“My tip here is to add just a teaspoon of ground coffee to your shampoo when you wash your hair, and then wash it out,” she advised.

Dr. Bowring then warned that “the hair will darken a bit” so it would “work best for dark hair.”

A basic pot of instant coffee will set you back around £1, while Sainsbury’s offers a pot for just £1.05.

Why does coffee stimulate hair growth?

Research has shown that coffee can help stimulate new hair growth. This is why our favorite morning drink works.

Coffee can stimulate hair growth, mainly due to the presence of caffeine.

Caffeine is known to improve blood circulation, which can help deliver more nutrients to the hair follicles, potentially promoting hair growth.

Additionally, caffeine may counteract the effects of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone linked to hair loss.

By reducing the impact of DHT on hair follicles, caffeine can help maintain healthier hair growth cycles.

There are also topical treatments that contain caffeine and are applied directly to the scalp.

These treatments aim to strengthen the hair shaft and stimulate the hair follicles, thereby encouraging growth.

Although some research suggests that caffeine may be beneficial for hair growth, more extensive research is needed to fully understand its effectiveness and the best application methods.

“Does it have to be instant coffee? Or can you use used coffee from a cafeteria? I understand why instant coffee is best because it dissolves. Just asking,” wrote a third.

Meanwhile, a fourth said: “I’m going to try this!!”

“Instant coffee??” asked a fifth, which the doctor said was fine.

Someone else added: “I mix it with pumpkin seed oil and leave it on for an hour… I’ve seen a huge change.”
