Doctor Miriam Adebibe offers technologically advanced skin treatments at its East London beauty clinic.

“The eyes are often the first part of the face to show signs of aging and it can also be a difficult area to treat because it is so delicate,” she says.

In an interview with The US Sun, she shared tips for rejuvenating the skin around the eyes.

SMOOTH SKIN

According to Dr. Adebibe, it is possible to still look tired even if you have had a good night’s sleep.

She blamed it on the heavy drooping eyelids, the tear troughs, the bags under the eyes, the dark circles and the wrinkles.

“Depending on your unique circumstances, there are several treatment options available that may help you,” she said.

“Microneedling has 30 years of brilliant evidence as a rejuvenating skin treatment.

“Thousands of microscopic injuries are made to the skin using tiny needles, stimulating the skin to produce elastin and collagen, improving all skin functions.”

She said it has numerous benefits for the face, besides improving the texture of the skin around the eyes.

REMOVE SWEATERS UNDER EYES

Dr. Adebibe revealed that dermal fillers have traditionally been the “main treatment” for reducing under-eye bags.

My $9 purchase from Amazon has transformed my dark under eye circles – I literally use it every night before bed, it’s a game changer

However, it is a risky procedure that can cause further complications.

“If you suffer from bags under your eyes, make sure your Botox treatments are performed by an experienced practitioner,” she said.

“The precise location of the injection around the eyes can make the difference between a fresher appearance or a more puffy skin under the eyes.”

LIGHTEN DARK CIRCLES

Dr. Adebibe said the “most exciting” alternative to dermal fillers is the polynucleotide treatment.

“These DNA fragments instruct your own cells to regenerate themselves and are then quickly cleared from your body,” she said.

“The skin feels tighter, looks smoother and the tissues underneath are fuller.”

I would opt for active skin care to reduce the production of extra melanin.

She said the treatment can also be used for specific types of dark circles.

“In people with hollows under the eyes, the dark circles may be caused by the presence of blood vessels under the thin skin,” she said.

“In this situation, dermal fillers and polynucleotides may work best.

“For people with dark circles due to pigment changes in the skin itself, I would opt for an active skin care regimen to reduce the production of extra melanin in this area.

“IPL treatment [Intense Pulsed Light therapy] can also be useful.”

According to Dr. Adebibe, skin care products with active ingredients should stimulate collagen production and be used in addition to SPF protection.
