NEW DELHI: Junior doctors protesting against the August 9 rape and murder at RG Kar Hospital have said they want to continue their protest at least till 5 pm on Tuesday, the Supreme Court deadline for them to resume their work. Otherwise, they will face action. Based on “the situation on the ground and the state’s measures”, they will decide what to do next.
Medical associations said they were “disheartened” by the Supreme Court’s position.
The general meeting of the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front postponed the decision to end the strike or ignore the Supreme Court’s directive.
Doctors’ groups said they viewed the situation with a sense of concern.
“It is shocking that junior doctors are being portrayed as responsible for deaths. It is completely wrong as the movement has not hampered hospital services,” IMA (West Bengal) said.
