Donald Trump Jr. announced the important role he wants to play if his father is re-elected president in November.

The 46-year-old son of the ex-president is one of his father’s strongest supporters and has been a major advocate for the Republican candidate’s second term, but has never held an official government position.

Trump Jr. said Tuesday that he won’t change that if his father wins a second term, but he does want a more unofficial status within his father’s agenda.

“I want a veto on the RINOs. I want a veto on the RINOs. That’s all I’m asking for,” he said.

RINO is an acronym for Republicans in Name Only – politicians who are considered insufficiently conservative.

In the past, former President Trump has used the RINO moniker to describe everyone from Ron DeSantis to ex-press secretary Kayleigh McEnany to Rupert Murdoch. He also used it for most of his Republican opponents in the 2024 primaries.

In addition to banning RINOs, he also appears to be using himself as a way to get pro-Trump people into government.

“The only role I want is to put our people in other positions of power. I just want to prevent the bad guys from ever getting into those positions of power. That’s all I want.”

One person who has investigated Trump Jr. for his RINO status is ally and now vice presidential candidate JD Vance.

The former president’s son believes the Ohio senator is the person who can pass on his father’s legacy to the next generation.

“I think he’s someone who really believes in that mission. He’s not a neoconservative warmonger from Washington, D.C., and I think that’s really important,” he told Fox News.

“I think it’s great to have a young, articulate, energetic man on my team who can keep this movement going for generations to come. I think that’s really fundamental and important,” Trump Jr. added.

He also loves how Vance stands up to what he calls a “hostile media.”

“I think it’s critical to the future of the movement and I think he’ll do a great job as vice president.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Trump Jr. revealed the “difficult moment” he was left unaware of his father’s health after a would-be assassin shot him, and the lighthearted jokes they exchanged to break the tension.

The president’s eldest son reenacted part of their first conversation after the gunman shot the former president in Pennsylvania. The conversation finally put an end to the uncertainty and also included some father-son banter.

“Can I call you Evander Holyfield because of the missing piece of your ear?” he told his father, who organizes boxing matches.

Don Jr. even did a respectable Trump imitation when he described how they broke the tension with humor in an interview with Axios outside the Republican convention.

“Most importantly, how’s the hair?” he asked his father. “The hair’s fine, Don. The hair’s fine. There’s a lot of blood in it, but it’s fine,” he said, his father replied.

Those jokes obscure the horrors endured by Trump Jr. and his family members — and the serious security questions he demands U.S. agencies answer about what went wrong.

Trump Jr. was prominently featured during the second night of the Republican Party convention in Milwaukee, although some of his father’s former enemies made headlines.

Nikki Haley, a former U.N. ambassador and Republican primary opponent, delivered a show of unity three days after Trump miraculously survived an assassination attempt, still wearing a bandage over the site of a bullet that pierced his right ear.

Haley was a strong contender during the primaries, trying to paint Trump as a lawbreaker, a rule breaker and a bully, and failed to convince voters of her promise to “get America back to normal.”

But the former president’s welcome, which gave her a friendly round of applause and a smile, may have — at least for a while — put an end to the feud between the two Republican powerhouses.

Initial cheers for the former South Carolina governor were quickly drowned out by applause as she lambasted Kamala Harris and called on the Republican Party to support Trump after the horrific assassination attempt.

Haley dropped her criticism of Trump and gave him her full support in the battle against Biden in the general election.

She also admitted that “you don’t always have to agree with him to vote for him” and thanked him for his “gracious invitation” to speak on Tuesday night.

“I want to start by making one thing very clear. Donald Trump has my strong support,” she said to thunderous applause.

“Our country is at a critical moment. We have to make a choice. For over a year, I have said that a vote for Joe Biden is a vote for President Kamala Harris. After watching the debate, everyone knows that is true.”

Haley was part of a group that included another former Trump opponent, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and ordinary Americans dealing with border crime and the opioid epidemic.

The former president laughed with delight when DeSantis ridiculed Joe Biden’s sleeping habits and said the US couldn’t tolerate another four years of his “Weekend at Bernie’s” presidency.

The second day of the GOP convention brought many popular Republicans to the stage: Vivek Ramaswamy, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), House Speaker Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), and many more.

The speakers criticized Biden’s border policies, the president’s age and his vision for a renewed America under Trump’s leadership.

Elsewhere, the Republican Party continued to present “ordinary Americans” recounting their horrific experiences living in the US under the Joe Biden presidency.

Anne Fundner, a mother of a teenage son who died of fentanyl poisoning, said she held Democrats responsible.

The family of Rachel Morin, a Maryland woman who authorities say was raped and murdered by a Salvadoran immigrant who illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border multiple times, also blamed Biden for her policies.

One of the primetime speakers, Madeline Brame, railed against Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, whose office prosecuted Trump for illegally orchestrating a hush-money scheme to influence the 2016 election, making Trump the first former president to be convicted of a crime.

Brame accused Bragg of mishandling the cases against the people accused of killing her son. Of Trump, she said, “He’s a victim of the same corrupt system that I and my family have been.”

She then repeated a statement he has been making at his meetings for years.

“They’re after us,” she said. “He’s just in the way.”

There were still some outsiders in attendance on the second night of the convention, when Savannah Chrisley compared the legal situation of her parents Todd and Julie Chrisley to that of former President Trump.

The 26-year-old reality star turned podcast host delivered a speech in which she slammed the prosecution and conviction of her parents, who were initially sentenced to a total of 19 years in federal prison.

Appearing in front of a huge police badge as a backdrop, she complained that the reality stars were being “persecuted” because of their “public profile and conservative beliefs.”

She alleged the unfair treatment was similar to that suffered by Donald Trump after he was convicted in New York state of 34 felonies, including falsifying business records related to attempts to conceal payments to porn star Stormy Daniels.

Chrisley went on to describe the American justice system as “bizarre,” claiming it targets “Christians and conservatives who are labeled by the government as extremists or worse.”
