It was a bitter verbal clash between senior advocate AM Singhvi, who appeared for Pawar Sr, and senior advocate Balbir Singh, who appeared for the Ajit-led NCP and told a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan that the party had violated the order of SC had followed closely. placing disclaimer advertisements in the media about the fact that the ‘clock symbol’ is sub judice.
Singhvi repeatedly complained that an official of the Ajit-led NCP, MLC Amol Mitkari, had posted photos of Pawar Sr on and that there is no division to sow confusion in the minds of voters.
“The Ajit Pawar-led NCP cannot ride on the goodwill of Sharad Pawar, which is a blatant violation of the SC orders,” Singhvi said. Maharashtra will vote on November 20.
The bench doubted whether rural voters would be affected by an X-post, which is generally intended for consumption by urban populations. “Do you think the people of Maharashtra do not know that the two leaders have parted ways and gone in opposite directions?” the bench said and wanted to know from Singhvi on which seats these two parties are in direct conflict.
Singhvi said they were in direct contest on 36 seats but the attempt was to create confusion in all 288 seats in favor of the rival coalition in which Ajit’s NCP was a partner.
Can an X-post cause confusion if disclaimers are published in almost all newspapers, the bank wonders.
To determine the veracity of Ajit Pawar-NCP’s allegations of violations, an inquiry committee should be constituted, the report said.
Mentioning a further hearing for November 19, a day before the elections, the bench sought clarification from Ajit’s party on a particular message, using Pawar Sr.’s photo, and said: “You have disclaimers published. But what Singhvi says is correct. Whether it is an old or recent photo of Sharad Pawar, ask your officials not to use any of his photos.”
“Tell your party functionaries that they will not use old or new video clips or use photographs of Sharad Pawar with whom your party has ideological differences. You are trying to stand on your feet,” the bench said.
