“Don’t wear this to a wedding,” people shout as they warn guests will anger the bride
Finding the right outfit for a wedding is no easy task for guests. There is a lot to think about, from not wearing red to formal dress codes.
But one woman has been criticized for the outfit she planned to wear to a Bordeaux wedding.
The nervous wedding guest wrote on social media: “Are you worried your wedding guest is wearing a dress that’s too tight?”
“I have a beautiful dress for a wedding on Saturday, but when I tried it on last night it was really tight.
“The zipper does close if you pull hard, but once it’s closed it feels very uncomfortable.
“I could wear it, but with the heat it’s going to be an ordeal. I feel so stupid.”
But now she was in doubt whether she should choose a new outfit.
She shared a photo of the ensemble, which consisted of a navy silk V-neck top and a white satin long skirt.
“Would that be okay, do you think? It’s a wedding in France. It is expected to be 30 degrees.”
“I also have a black satin skirt and I might find a top to go with it,” she continued.
With so many rules for bridal wear, the woman clearly didn’t know what to choose.
While she felt her dress was too tight, users pointed out another issue with her second outfit choice that she clearly overlooked.
The post was flooded with responses from others Mothernet users who revealed that her outfit wasn’t the best for the occasion.
Someone wrote: “I would pass on the off white slip skirt. It’s Nice but too white and can be sweaty.”
Another commented: “You’ll choke on satin polyester! Cool and loose, Tesco had some lovely plain fitted double dress knits. Pleated top and spaghetti straps and I know you want spaghetti straps but… I’m up north Italy and the heat is extra hot.”
Wedding Guest Etiquette
If you’re having trouble choosing a dress for wedding season, here are a few rules about what not to wear so you don’t get into trouble.
- According to tradition, wearing red to a wedding means you have slept with the groom.
- Informal clothing such as jeans and flip-flops should always be avoided.
- Any color that can be recognized as white or cream, even if it is not.
- Most will agree that your décolletage should be covered.
- Wearing white is absolutely taboo if you are not the bride.
“Don’t wear this to a wedding of any colour in the world, white satin is a bridal fabric and a navy top doesn’t go with it,” wrote a third.
Meanwhile, a fourth said: “I wouldn’t wear a dark satin top, if you’re hot you’ll get sweat stains. It doesn’t look good.”
