‘Don’t you dare marry that man!’ Bride warned after tirade about fiancé’s wedding dress
WELL-INTENDING strangers warned a bride to run after her fiancé’s tirade about her wedding dress.
Many agreed that he just wasn’t the right person for her.
Reddit user Capital_Manager_7070 shared the marriage dilemma in a post.
She explained that her six-year relationship was tested when her sister-in-law gave her a “wedding gift.”
“My mother’s wedding dress has been passed down for generations and I remember dreaming of walking down the aisle in it as a little girl,” she explains.
“We were recently planning our wedding and we were invited to a dinner hosted by my fiancé’s family on Sunday.”
Halfway through the meal, her sister-in-law stood up and tapped her spoon against her glass to propose a toast.
“She said she would be right back, but then went into another room and came back with a large plastic bag,” she said.
“Everyone seemed excited, but I just felt confused. I smiled awkwardly as I asked SIL what was in the bag. She opened it and showed her wedding dress from her wedding, which was two years ago.”
While everyone at the dinner seemed excited, the bride felt uncomfortable.
“Everyone started clapping when SIL announced that this was her official wedding gift to us and that she wanted me to wear her dress at the wedding,” she said.
“I tried to smile, but I couldn’t seem to hide my disappointment very well and everyone started asking what was wrong.
“I tried to explain that I wanted to wear my mother’s dress and that it was nothing personal, but I refused to wear my sister-in-law’s dress. My sister-in-law started crying as my in-laws began to tease me and comfort her. I burst into tears and ran outside.”
She was shocked when her fiancé ‘didn’t even come after me’ and after ‘standing on the stairs crying for hours’ finally emerged – only to scream at her to get in the car.
“I was so confused, but when I got in the car I heard him yelling at me for making such a big scene and embarrassing him in front of his family,” she said.

“He sounded so angry and even said he couldn’t believe he chose to marry such a ‘b***hy c**t’ (his exact words).
“My fiancé also said that SIL was just trying to be nice and that her dress was more modern compared to my mother’s dress, which looked like an ‘old rag’ (these are also his exact words).
“I tried to tell him how much my mother’s wedding dress meant to me because I promised her I would wear it.”
She suspected that her fiancé’s family had planned the gift and wanted to embarrass her.
“I don’t think I did anything wrong, but part of me feels like I should have just gone along with it and told SIL in private that I wouldn’t be wearing the dress,” she said.
Viewers warned her not to go ahead with the ceremony, but they said their reason had nothing to do with the dress.
“Give back SIL’s dress. Give back your ring,” one commenter said.
“Don’t you dare marry that man!” said another.
“This is the only comment you need to read OP. Run!” said a third.
“Madam, you need to leave that whole family behind, including your fiancé. Especially not that asshole. You just got a glimpse of your future if you continue in this relationship,” one commenter agreed.
Many felt she should save her mother’s precious wedding dress for a more dignified occasion.
“OP, DO NOT waste your mother’s wedding dress on this man. He doesn’t deserve it,” one viewer wrote.
“This! OP is not to blame, and it’s a good thing he showed himself before he got married,” another agreed.
“This will allow you to see exactly what your future holds with him. Run.”
