Down-to-earth Glasgow newlyweds ditch wedding guests to head to Greggs

A BRIDE and groom sneak away from their own wedding to go to GREGGS – to keep up the tradition of one of their first dates.

Louise Clark, 27, and Connor Clark, 28, got married at a Glasgow council house on August 3 and decided to head to their ‘favourite spot’ for a bite to eat and some alone time away from their 33 guests.

The newlyweds admitted that friends and family had “no idea” that the Greggs superfans had visited the bakery for an informal wedding breakfast until they rejoined them half an hour later – just in time for their official meal.

They enjoyed free ‘Mr and Mrs’ doughnuts and cold drinks at the Kelvinbridge branch and even had a quick photo shoot with the staff.

And unlike other couples in love, the bride says her favorite snap from her big day is of her in her dress, wolfing down a ring-studded donut at a fast food restaurant.

Mother-of-one Louise said: “Our guests had no idea we had gone to Greggs. They hadn’t come with us. I think they went to the pub.

“My husband and I split a doughnut because we knew we were going to eat, so I took the other doughnut. They said, ‘No way, you didn’t go to Greggs. That’s so you.'”

The parents, who have been together for 13 years, met when they were 14 years old at school.

They said their “fondest memories” were dates at Greggs and they kept up the “tradition”.

Lousie, a merchandiser who lives in Glasgow, added: “We absolutely love going to Greggs. We’ve been together since we were in high school.

“When you’re that age, you don’t have a lot of money. One of my fondest memories of the early dating stages was sitting in one of the shopping centres in Glasgow with a Greggs.

“That was one of our first dates. We couldn’t afford anything else. We wanted to keep the tradition going. It’s definitely a regular thing in our family.”

And the down-to-earth couple will always look back on Greggs’ wedding photos.

“It was really special. It was unexpected, but just a huge part of the day and something I will remember forever,” Louise reveals.

“We thought we would sit outside and enjoy the scenery. I knew it would be really nice photos as we love Greggs so much.

“Since we were eating, I thought I wouldn’t get anything to eat. The staff gave us free ‘Mr and Mrs’ donuts while we were sitting outside.

“We had so many people come up to us and say, ‘That’s a nice idea, enjoy your day.’

“The staff were amazing and really made it special.

“I didn’t think these pictures would be as good as they were. It was just the right thing. When I got the pictures I was blown away, they were actually my favorite pictures. Especially the one of me eating the donut.

“The day was so chaotic and hectic. Because we were taking photos and it was non-stop, it was really nice to just sit outside Greggs and relax. It was really nice, just me and my husband.”

Louise has since gone viral on TikTok after sharing photos with the caption: “If you love Greggs so much, you’ll go in on your wedding day.”

And people call the duo ‘iconic’ because of their unconventional idea.

It’s not the first time Greggs has played a major role in special events, with the fast food chain now a favourite among celebrities.

Singer Olly Murs hosted a Greggs-inspired baby shower for his wife and recently reality star Vicky Pattison enjoyed a Greggs-inspired wedding reception.

Newlyweds Louise and Connor now want to encourage others to visit their ‘favourite places’ on their wedding day.

Louise said: “I would recommend other newlyweds to do it. Vicky Patterson had the truck the other day, what a great idea.

“When someone has something that’s one of their favorite places and they go there, you never forget it. Especially if you have a photographer. It’s just so memorable and time for you guys.”
