‘Dracula’s Bride Wears This to Bed,’ People Say About Woman’s Wedding Guest Outfit
It can be tricky knowing what to wear as a wedding guest, and not everyone follows the instructions with their outfit.
One woman decided to show off her dress to Reddit users before the big day to make sure she met the requirements, which didn’t go down well.
She wrote: “Is this okay for a formal wedding on a fall evening?”
The wedding guest then showed off photos of her dress: a strappy maxi dress from House of CB.
The black lace dress, which features a corset back and retails for £199, also comes with a detachable long-sleeved bolero.
The woman continued: ‘I feel like when I read about wedding dress codes, I have a hard time describing the word ‘formal.’
“I tried on this dress.
“My wedding partner loves it on me and I agree it’s very flattering, but is this appropriate for a formal wedding?”
People were quick to voice their opinions and also said they weren’t sure about a formal ceremony.
One of them said, “This is what Dracula’s bride wears when she goes to bed.”
Another added: “While it could be formal, it doesn’t come across as elegant.”
And a third commented: “For a formal traditional wedding with lots of older people this is a bit too sexy, Morticia Addams.”
The wedding guest responded to the criticism by saying, “I understand that.
“The couple is younger and they seem to have a lot of friends.
“The bride and her friends look very stylish in the photos on their wedding website and from what I see on Facebooking.
“It’s also an adults-only wedding, but I can’t imagine that will change the dress code.”
Still, there were people who assured us that it was fine.
Someone commented: “It might be a little unfamiliar to your audience, but it’s really beautiful!
“I would wear it.”
Wedding Guest Etiquette
If you’re having trouble choosing a dress for wedding season, here are a few rules about what not to wear so you don’t get into trouble.
- According to tradition, wearing red to a wedding means you have slept with the groom.
- Informal clothing such as jeans and flip-flops should always be avoided.
- Any color that can be recognized as white or cream, even if it is not.
- Most will agree that your décolletage should be covered.
- Wearing white is absolutely taboo if you are not the bride.
If you’re feeling a little rusty when it comes to choosing outfits, Sian Ryan, design director at River Islandgives advice on wedding attire.
She said: “Before I decide what my guests will look like at my wedding, I always think about the dress code. Hopefully, this will be on the invitation, but if not, the design of the invitation and the choice of venue can give you some clues about the overall feel of the wedding.
“To get in the mood, I like to browse Vogue, Who What Wear and Instagram for inspiration.
“Whether you go all out with bright colors or opt for softer pastels, fall is the perfect time to experiment with color.
“We expect yellow in rich mango tones to be a big hit! If such a bold colour is too much for you, consider more muted shades – I especially love the contrast of a pretty, feminine pink in a more androgynous style, like the costume.
“Of course you want to look your best at a wedding, but it’s also important that you feel comfortable in what you’re wearing. Choosing natural, breathable fabrics like cotton and silk, especially in these humid months, will likely keep you cool. A block heel offers the best of both worlds – style and comfort – and is grass-friendly!
“If you dress less structured, you can sit, eat and dance all day long, while evening guests can dress a little more sensually and elegantly in a statement slip dress.
“Whether you stay true to your own style by adding your favorite accents, functions or you use the party as an opportunity to experiment with different silhouettes and styles – my top tip is to have fun with fashion and choose an outfit that you feel confident in so you can focus on having fun!”
