Dramatic breakthrough more than three decades after Aussie Mother disappeared without a track in a cold cause that Australia grabbed

A man was accused of the suspect disappearing from a mother two years after a probe reopened in the cold case.

Pauline Sowry, 49, was missing in December 1993 from Wollongong, south of Sydney. Her place of residence remains unknown.

A study in 2008 showed that she had died, despite an unconfirmed observation in 1994.

NSW Police Strike Force Anthea was formed in 2022 to re -investigate the circumstances of the case.

After extensive questions, the police arrested a Wollongong -man, 64, on a unit in Gywnneville on Thursday morning.

Images showed officers who led a man with a long, gray ponytail from unity to the back of a police car.

He was transferred to the Wollongong police station, was accused of accessory after the fact to kill and hide serious indictment.

The man was refused bail and will appear in Wollongong Local Court on Friday.

The breakthrough has long been busy for Mrs. Sowry’s family.

“We have waited more than 30 years to hear the news of today,” said her son Jason Lawrence in a statement shared by the police.

‘We miss her every day and her disappearance has taken a huge toll from myself and our entire family.

“We thank the police officers for never giving up hope and we look forward to the outcome of this investigation.”

Southern Region Assistant Commissioner Joe Cassar said that the police were working tirelessly to close the case.

The NSW government offered a reward of $ 500,000 in March 2024 for information about Mrs. Sowry’s disappearance.

Local officers carried out three searches as part of their research in 2023 and 2024 and found items of clothing from Mrs. Sowry, who also kept her married name Pauline Lawrence.

Those items include a cream button-down blouse with long sleeves with colored stitching and black pants.

Bushland was an important area of ​​interest in Figtree, south of Wollongong.

In May 2024, the police called on the audience to share information about a ‘unspoilt’ white 1968 HK Kingswood Sedan, which detectives, believed that Mrs. Sowry had been traveling.

“During last year’s renewed profession for information, I promised that the NSW police would not leave a stone without a stone to look for a resolution,” said Assistant Commissioner Cassar.

‘The perseverance and effort of my officers has resulted in today’s arrest.

“I recommend the tireless dedication of our officers to find answers to Pauline’s family and they continue to work hard to bring this case to the courts.”

He added that Mrs. Sowry’s disappearance is ‘still subject to an investigation’.

“Even of whatever happens today (with the man), I would expect that there will be continuous studies until we can find Pauline and to see if there are other suspects or evidence that we may have to find,” he said.

“It’s an open investigation.”

Items seized during Thursday’s arrest will test under forensic.

Mr Cassar confirmed that the man arrested was an “important person who could certainly help us with this research” and was a “person important” during investigations.

“The reason for his arrest is specifically with regard to the suspected disappearance of Pauline,” he said.

“There is a confirmed connection between this person and Pauline.”
