Dramatic moment when mother and 11-year-old son’s home is bombed as they slept – but police say there isn’t enough evidence
Terrifying CCTV footage shows the petrol bomb attack on a car and a house – while the occupants were inside.
The car and the front door of the house were left black and smoldering during the attack.
And mum Laura Coupland, 39, and her son Lincoln-Jay, 11, were forced to leave the property in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, in the aftermath.
Footage shows a car surrounded by flames while a man stands watches the fire unfolds.
Police was present at the incident but says the investigation has been closed due to lack of evidence.
Laura, who has now moved to a new house, said: “Me, my son and dogs were sleeping in that house at the time.
“My son was too scared to go back – it had quite a big effect on both of us.
“I almost had a nervous breakdown and became very depressed. My son also suffered from it, he became quite angry about it.
“The fire damaged the house and destroyed everything.”
Laura says the attack, which happened in July 2023, turned their lives upside down and they lost everything as the fire caused smoke damage throughout the three-bed home.
She claims two petrol bombs were thrown: one at her car and one at her front door.
And she says they had to live in temporary accommodation before the council could offer them a new home.
Despite moving to new premises in October 2023, Laura says that having moved out of their area, her son now has to go to a new school.
She says she is frustrated with the police response because no arrests have been made.
“It was frustrating because it’s serious. I was so angry, I was furious,” Laura said.
‘I hope the video will appeal to someone’s conscience.
“We lost everything, our house and our car, my son was supposed to go to a local school but obviously that all changed.
“Luckily our neighbor had a fire hose and extinguished the front door and the car until the fire brigade arrived.
‘There was one above the front door gas so we’re lucky it wasn’t worse.”
A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “We can confirm that we attended this incident at Hemswell Cliff on July 11, 2023.
“We provided as much support as we could, but there was not enough evidence to proceed with an investigation.”
