- Dyson has announced the new Ultradunne, ultra-light pencilvac
- The new Fluffycones Floorhead is designed to prevent her
- It looks like a specialized model for hard floors
I write about vacuum cleaners for a living, and although the performance vary, most new models now look about the same.
So as news about a new addition to the Dyson Vacuum Line-Up landed in my inbox, I expected to see something similar as the existing models: smooth and high-quality, but not particularly distinctive or surprising.
How wrong I was.
The newly revealed Dyson Pencilvac not only has an unusual name, it is all -round one of the most unique vacuum cleaners I have seen. This brand knows what it is doing on this market – it makes part of the Best wireless vacuum cleaners You can buy, and it’s very bad Best Dyson -Cleaning Cleaners Add functions that you still can’t find anywhere else.
So while the Pencilvac descends far from the proven formula of what works for vacuum cleaners, I am very optimistic about the performance. Here is an overview of the most intriguing functions in this new launch …
1. It is ridiculously thin
The most noticeable about the Pencilvac is that it is incredibly streamlined. Without the floor head, the whole thing is 1.5 inch / 3.8 cm in diameter. To make that possible, the brand had to develop a small new engine – the Dyson Hyperdymium 140K engine is only 1.1 inch / 2.8 cm wide and fully hidden in the handle.
The Pencilvac is also impressive lightweight and clocks in 4 pounds / 1.8 kg. For context, the lightest option in our Best wireless vacuum Roundup At the moment is 5.7LBS / 2.6 kg, and there are a number of models that weigh more than 6.6 pounds / 3 kg.
In general, when you reduce a vacuum, you sacrifice strength. That is why Handheld vacuum cleaners are usually much less ‘fool’ than options in full size. This applies to the pencil vac – there is 55AW suction power, compared to 115AW for the V8 (The oldest Dyson Stick-vacuum in the current series) and a huge 280AW for the newest and greatest Gen5Detect. Although it is unlikely that it is suitable for a really deep beauty, that is still a considerable amount of suction for the size and weight.
If a comment, the diameter of 1.5 inch / 3.8 cm is not incidental. Brand -founder James Dyson says: “I have long wanted to make a vacuum with only 38 mm diameter (the same as my newest hair dryer, the supersonic r)”. The Dyson Supersonic R is the pipe -shaped dryer that was originally only released for professionals, but recently joined the most important consumer range.
2. There are cones instead of rollers
Go to the business end and you will find the new ‘Fluffycones’ floor head. It sounds like a Pokémon, but it is actually a again conceived cleaner head. Vacuums traditionally have one brush roll, a maximum of two, and they are tubular. The Dyson Pencilvac has four brush rolls and they are all conical.
There is logic in the tapered shape: it helps to lead long hair along the roll and in the dust cup, while with parallel rolls the hair tends to simply wrap around and stay there until you pick it up or attack it with scissors. Dyson’s hair propeller tools Also has a conical brush roll and works exactly as it is intended when it comes to tackling long hair.
Project the cones on the sides so that they can clean directly to the edges of rooms, and the whole thing can be flat on the floor, with a clearance of only 9.5 cm / 3.75 inches of the floor.
I am interested in Dyson’s description of the rollers as ‘fluffy’, because in the vocabulary of the brand usually only a soft role indicates for use on hard floors. The more I look at this vacuum, the more I am convinced that it is a specialist model, only for use on a hard floor. It is not specified in the press material that I have so far, but it would be logical with the lower suction and smaller dust capacity.
3. There is no visible Dust Cup
One of the most astonishing things in the Pencilvac is that it does not seem to have a dust cup. Of course there is one – just like the engine, it is hidden in the handle.
The capacity is for nothing: only 0.08l. However, Dyson has introduced a dust compression system that uses air To squar the particles so that they take up as little space as possible. Dyson claims that this means that it can contain the physical volume five times.
The empty process has also been re-conceived, replaced with a push-liver system with an exciting sounding “syringe, no-touch bin ejection mechanism”.
While the dust and debris pushes out, the mechanism wipes the ‘shroud’ at the same time. I am not entirely clear what the ‘shroud’ is in this context, but I do know that keeping the internal mechanisms clean is the key to efficient vacuum performance, so this seems like a good thing.
4. The floor is glowing and seems to float
In addition to transferring her while you clean, the carpet tiles have a trick in the sleeve. The cones rotate in opposite directions, the goal is that this vacuum cleaner cleans just as well when it is pushed forward as when it is withdrawn. This is a bit of a weak spot on the normal downy floor head – it has no trouble sucking things when they move forward, but pull it back and debris will play pool.
I am intrigued to see how this new approach works in practice – especially since Dyson describes it as “floating” over the floor. I also wonder if it could make this vacuumable completely, given that the handle looks very symmetrical.
Dyson has also added “laser-like” lighting to both the front and back of the floor. This is a different function borrowed from the exiting downy floor head and helps create large shadows on the smallest pieces of fabric, which would otherwise be missed. It only works on hard floors, what a different indication is this vaccine is probably not for carpet.
There is an intriguing addition to the tool setup in the form of a ‘rotating combi-crevice tool’, designed for cleaning in uncomfortable holes. This seems especially aimed at cleaning high-up, where it can be difficult to get your corners correctly. It is particularly logical for an ultra -light vacuum that is much easier to lift above your head than your average Stokvacuum.
Aside, it seems that the Pencilvac button is- instead of activated. That is determined by the streamlined form, but it is also great news for maneuverability and easy use – the fact that many Dyson vacs still Use a trigger to switch on is a perpetual bugbear of mine.
You also get a conical hair screw tool, similar to it included with the latest Dyson Stick vacuum cleaners, for tackling long hair on furniture. Both can be stored on the magnetic charging dock.
6. It is app bonded
I am much less enthusiastic about this position, but it feels like I have to point out that this is the first dyson -wire -free vacuum that connects to the MyDyson app. The app offers more information about the battery life and also reports on filter status. However, there is also a screen on the vacuum itself with the remaining battery, so I hope that the app connection is an optional extra instead of an essential.
Price and availability
The Pencilvac will first arrive in Australia, with launch planned for August 2025. It will go on sale somewhere in 2026 in the UK, and I am waiting for information about or/when it comes to the US. As far as I have no price information at all – I will update this article with more details when I have them.
