Early results show a red shift in the US
Among counties with near-complete results, more than 90 percent of the 2024 presidential election went in favor of former President Donald J. Trump, according to a Times analysis of election results reported early Wednesday.
Mr. Trump improved his 2020 margin in 2,367 counties. His margin fell in only 240 provinces. There were 536 counties where too few votes were counted to be included in the analysis.
Support for Trump has fluctuated back and forth during his three consecutive presidential elections, but early results showed that even some states where Vice President Kamala Harris was leading had shifted to the right.
Trump appeared to improve his performance on election night in many types of counties, including those that had supported him in previous elections, but also those that historically leaned Democratic.
