EasyJet scraps free baggage allowance, a setback for thousands of holidaymakers who use the budget airline
Holidaymakers flying with EasyJet are facing a major setback to their travel plans as the budget airline announces it will scrap baggage allowances for city breaks.
Previously, customers who purchased a city break package automatically had 23 kg of hold baggage added to their deal. This baggage is checked in at the airport and stored in the hold of the aircraft.
However, since August 7, this additional option has been removed and passengers can choose whether to travel with hand luggage or pay extra for hold luggage.
According to the company, removing this additional option makes it possible to offer city trips at a lower price than before.
This change does not affect customers who purchased a flight-only ticket. For other tour combinations, the baggage policy still applies.
However, for city break packages, large hand luggage (which fits in the aircraft overhead bin) costs £5.99 one way, and £9.49 one way for 23kg hold luggage.

EasyJet Holidays said in a statement: ‘We pride ourselves on delivering fantastic holidays at unbeatable prices, which is why we are constantly listening to our customers about how we can make our packages even better.
‘Our customers have told us that 23 kg is not always necessary for city trips. That is why, from 7 August 2024, our flights and hotel accommodation will be included as standard with our city trips. For a fee, you can add large hand luggage and hold luggage.
‘The savings we make by not having to add luggage to the booking are offset against the total cost of the holiday. We are confident that we can tailor our packages to the needs of holidaymakers and continue to offer our customers convenience and flexibility during their trip.’
Easyjet is set to launch a brand new route from four major UK airports in November: Birmingham, London, Manchester and Liverpool, as the popular budget airline looks to rapidly expand its offering.
Airline easyJet has announced that it will fly to a popular holiday destination every week from its new route, in addition to five other winter routes.
From November 13, passengers will be able to travel from Birmingham Airport to Hurghada, a seaside resort in Egypt, every Wednesday.
Other new routes include Krakow, Reykjavik, Innsbruck, Prague and Marrakech.
Tom Screen, aviation director at Birmingham Airport, said: ‘easyJet and easyJet holidays have made a fantastic start since opening the airline’s new base at Birmingham Airport in March.
‘With this new route to Hurghada, customers can choose from 33 destinations from their local airport. They can choose from a flight only or a complete package holiday. There is something for everyone.’
