Dear Prime Minister,
“Through neglect in the past, despite the most obvious warnings, we have entered a period of danger.
The era of procrastination, of half measures, of calming mind-boggling drugs, of delays is coming to an end. Instead, we are entering a period of consequence.’ (Winston Churchill 1936)
Insulate Britain would like to take this opportunity to deeply acknowledge the disruption caused over the past five weeks. We cannot imagine taking such actions under normal circumstances. But the terrible reality of our situation must be faced.
The facts are laid out by Sir David King, the former Chief Scientific Adviser to the British Government, he said: ‘We must act quickly. What we do in the next 3 to 4 years, I believe will determine the future of humanity.”
Climate collapse is happening around us. We are faced with economic chaos and the collapse of public order in a matter of years. We will lose our incomes, pensions and savings while passing on a terrible legacy to our children. They will be rightly furious. Around the world, thousands of millions of people will lose their lives to slaughter and famine as crops fail and society collapses.
In the run-up to COP26, Insulate Britain will suspend its campaign of civil resistance until Monday, October 25. In light of the speech you made (to the UN on September 22) in which you acknowledged that ‘We are approaching that critical turning point – in less than two months – when we must demonstrate our ability to learn and mature and finally take responsibility for the destruction we wreak, not only on our planet, but on ourselves,” we ask you to use this time to show that you believe what you say.
We invite you to make a meaningful statement we can rely on, a statement the country wants to hear: that your government will fulfill its responsibilities to protect us, defend law and order; that your government will take the lead necessary to insulate and adapt our homes; that it “goes on with the work” so that families can feed their children and keep their homes warm.
We invite you to do the right thing so that we can be sure that our government has done everything in its power to protect and defend our country.
