The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches at the premises of Raipur on Wednesday Gaurav Mehta in connection with a bitcoin transaction case, sources said. The research is part of a broader whole money laundering investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The case has attracted attention due to allegations by BJP leaders accusing NCP MP Supriya Sule and Congress leader Nana Patole of using bitcoins to fund their ongoing activities. According to ED sources, Mehta is accused as far back as 2017 of raising funds worth Rs 6,600 crore worth of bitcoin, luring investors with promises of 10% monthly returns. The investigation stems from police complaints filed in Maharashtra and Delhi.
Officials believe that Mehta’s activities may be linked to larger financial operations that could potentially influence the election process. The ED is expected to intensify its investigation into the alleged misuse of cryptocurrencies.
