Eddie McGuire responds to Karl Stefanovic’s wild claim that the French are ‘rude, arrogant and sexually strange’ as the TV veterans cover the Paris Olympics for Channel Nine
Eddie McGuire has spoken out after Karl Stefanovic gave a brutally honest assessment of the French, calling them ‘rude, arrogant and sexually strange’.
The TV series presenters are both in Paris to report on the Olympics for Channel Nine, and Eddie says he takes the ‘opposite’ view.
“I love the atmosphere, the people are great, the food is delicious and the drivers are welcoming,” he says Adelaide now.
“I can’t wait to get to the end so I can drink some fantastic French wines. Shopping, sightseeing, history, fashion (is) inspiring,” he continued.
‘Beautiful exhibitions of Rodin and Picasso, shops and fashion, really beautiful.
“The games were inspiring and ambitious. It’s everything I hoped Paris would be. I love it, I love Paris, Viva La France.”
This comes after Stefanovic shared his provocative observations earlier this week.
“The French are weirdos. The French are complete weirdos. We all know that,” he told The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Monday.

“It’s a strange country, sexually.”
Jackie Henderson then asked Stefanovic if he had tried speaking French with the locals, to which the presenter gave a short answer.
“You know what? I don’t try anymore. I don’t really like them,” he said.
“They’re so rude. Oh, they’re really into themselves… they’re arrogant. They do make a good burger. I like the burgers and stuff here.”

This came after Karl faced criticism after his wife Jasmine thanked Channel 9 in a social media post following a lavish dinner at Girafe Restaurant.
At this expensive eatery, you can get caviar for as much as €650 (AUD$1,075), while main courses cost between $60 and $70.
The luxurious restaurant has a terrace with views of the Eiffel Tower.
Not everyone was happy with the post. One comment on Instagram read: ‘I’m sure all the people who just got fired from Channel Nine will be happy to see you eating at the most expensive restaurant in Paris, paid for by Channel Nine!’
Another said: ‘100%. Read the room. Go eat and enjoy. But at least have enough compassion not to post about it.’
Others, however, stood up for the pair, responding with: ‘They work themselves to death 24/7 in Paris. So be nice and cheerful, or just say nothing.’
“There’s always someone who’s negative and spouts nonsense on a nice post,” said another.

In June, Nine Entertainment CEO Mike Sneesby announced job cuts as part of a $30 million cost-saving plan for the company.
“Of our national team of nearly 5,000 people, approximately 200 jobs in Nine are expected to be affected, including a number of vacancies and temporary roles that will not be filled,” Sneesby said.
Jasmine, 40, has shared photos of her luxury Paris accommodation on social media.
One photo showed Karl with his four-year-old daughter Harper, who was relaxing on a chaise longue. Another showed a spacious bedroom complete with a king-size bed and stunning views of the city.
“A beautiful welcome to Paris by @airbnb. Thank you for hosting us during the Olympics,” she captioned the photos
‘We have made such amazing family memories already. It really feels like a home from home #airbnbpartner.’
